Default 17 Psi APS ST Stock Block.. help

Hey guys... okay I dunno if the gauge just isn't reading right or what but here is the deal..

Boost gauge shows essentially no data in first and second gear. 3rd and 4th does exactly what it should. Runs up to 10-11 PSI drops down to 9. 5th gear... the gauge FLIES up to like freaking 17 PSI! 6th gear it goes back to behaving normal. I don't get it... shouldn't the car be running the 8.5-11 PSI of boost in every gear? Why would the 5th gear act so differently... is it just some sort of ghost in the gauge or what? Anyone who can explain this phenomena that would be super...

If you were actually running 17 psi of boost in 6th gear on a stock block, this thread would be alot different..Trust me..what type of guage is it?

Defi... I just am so confused why in 5th gear and 5th gear only the gauge goes whacky.... If I punch it in any other gear most the gauge shows is 11

not necessarily, when i had my wastegate wired shut i was hitting 17-18 psi all the time. i wouldnt hold it there but for brief WOT hits, i would max out at 18 psi. it just depends on which production run your internals came from .

its easier to build boost in higher gears. its just weird that yours ONLY does it in 5th. are you still running the stock APS boost controller thru the unichip?

what happens, say, it you are cruising down the road doing about 50, in a high gear, and punch it, does the boost slowly climb, or shoot up pretty fast? does it go to 11, or still go up to 17?

don't do it, we may have to play with the wastegate actuator and boost setting, 5th gear on a roll is easy to build boost quickly so please do not do any more until you come back in.

Hah hah hey Gus... I dunno.. blown motor equals rebuild... But honestly you've got it.. I'll make sure not to do any boosting until I get her home and all buttoned up. When I drove it last night I did 3rd and 4th and same as before builds to 10.5 then drops back like normal. I saw the 5th start to climb fast and once it went over 10 I just said screw this and pulled off. Didn't bother with 6th.. Arghhh.. now another reason graduation can't come soon enough.

Car is fine to run so long as I don't do any boosting correct? Want to make sure I can drive the damn thing down to Palm Beach 180 miles in two weeks.

it'll be good as long as u don't go past 10psi. But the bearings might have been damaged.
