You ONLY paid $650 for a cam install? I was quoted at a minimum of $1000 for this near me.

No, did not say that, but there are shim kits that need to be used with certain cams. And sometimes the vavle height is slightly off spec and need to have a new bucket with the proper shim installed. This is most often the case when you do a full head job with new valves. But in the JWT cams, they plop right in with the new springs and shims with little adjustments. Some of the more agressive ones may need more adjustments..
8 hours is in the ballpark if your doing cams like the JWT or nimo, cant say how the Tomei or impul fit..

Scotts cams don't need shims, are perfect for forced induction and comes in a couple different specs. why would you put a n/a cam in a forced induction car if you had the choice? just my two cents.

does anyone have the tomei cams in a FI car yet? It all seems theoretical that they'd do well. I'm thinking their duration etc are set up more for NA and might not be the best choice for FI, but I'm just guessing.

ya the guy at nissan that sponsered me said that i got to do all this stuff and we went over all the est. and i was goin to spend like 3500 bucks on the damn cam set up ...now i am leaning towards the vortech supercharger....my ignorance lead me to think that a supercharger would kill the life of your engine more than turbos...then i asked the guy at nissan and he said that superchargers are more reliable and they are easier to install....have any of you guyz considered f/I?

i've got the tomei 268's with a built motor right now, have to wait until after my next business trip to pick up the turbos... running pretty much stock tuned and my LSD is giving me a real headache... if i can get those sorted out, i'll be sure to let you know

Default Nismo Cams

I am installing Stillen Stage 2 and was wondering would adding the Nismo Cams help increase the torque. I am trying to get to at least 325 or 335 at the wheels. I see some are barely making this with the stage 4. Are the numbers Stillen posting accurate?

We used JWT cams, slightly different lift and duration than Nismo. We had the lash on the valves set and had to get a whole new set of buckets to be within spec. But keep in mind we also did an entire new Ferrea valve train. I would say with the cams and valves and headwork, expect to pay $5000 or so.But keep in mind this is a full port and polished set of heads, lower intake runner, new valves, new springs, new buckets, cam lash set,cams...
Just to do the cams in an otherwise stock set up , expect to pay about $1100-1300 for cams,$200-300 for springs and shims...And about 10-15 hours labor..

Nissan does not offer sponsorships.....The dealer may have said that to you and took 20% off their already azz-raping bill, to make you feel good, but rest assured its no sponsorship..lol

I would go with Duration over lift on a F/I car, since your already cramming the air and fuel into the motor to start with. So, whichever has the longer duration..Oh and make sure you do the springs also, they tend to crack under the stresses of F/I and cams..

would it be a problem if you keep the stock rev limit?

Ok Tomeis have 268 duration and 0.4mm of lift less than the JWTs. So those would be it. Don't I need to worry about overlap ?

Is it important (like decision changing) I'm going with 1 mm oversized valves?

Yes, I'm getting new springs (2 part springs) and the works.

Thanks

Danny

you do need to worry about the overlap..To much on f/i is not good.. It is tough finding the right amount of lift, duration and overlap..If it were that easy there would be tons of cams on the market for the car.
