Default Supercharger

I just got off the phone with Stillen and they said the same price ez quoted, around $3000, and he also said that this Friday (02/07/03) they would be able to start taking reservations for the kit and they would have all the numbers on the unit along with the price.

That's strange. He gladly gave me a ballpark. He said they were going to try to keep the cost of the supercharger as close to 3000 as possible. Of course there will be added costs for the hood and exhaust.
Yeah, that is strange. I asked him twice. He just said, "Sorry sir, no numbers are avaibable at this time." I wonder if we talked to the same guy.

I removed my front strut brace when installing my earthing kit. Upon replacing it, bolts were at different spots from factory placement. As a result, I noticed different handling at high speed (~100 mph). I ended up taking it back to the dealership where it was adjusted.

That minor difference made a difference in handling. Without the brace at all, I would expect the Z would handle very differently at high speed.

Not having the brace was a big boo boo.

Well I agree with less money, but turbo is just as reliable and more power and a hell of a lot more fun. To each their own though.

Stillen Supercharger
Crap! Low TQ numbers BUT very flat tq curve. Most Maxima owners who have a similar system are going Turbo.

Looks like they have released a hood to go with.... hood w/scoop
I'll reserve judgment on this... It really doesn't appear to have a scoop appearance... just a bulge. And from the angle the photo is taken, it doesn't look terribly different from stock. I'd reeeeally like to see a front on or profile photo to see how high the bulge sticks up...

bobo... where did you see Torque figures??? I didn't see any figures on Stillen's page. Any word on how much power this kit will be putting out. For $3000 + the price of the hood, it better be pretty substantial... I'm thinking it better add somewhere in the 100hp range or more. Otherwise, I'll wait on a turbo that doesn't require me to change the outer appearance of my Brick.

I think everyone has seen pics of the SC in the past... here is the pic of the hood from Stillen's website...

If others can design a turbo / supercharger without a new hood, don't know why Stillen couldn't.

Makes you wonder why did Stillen go with a twin-screw type blower. Why not Vortech or some other centrifugal S/C? That would preserve the hood and allow for a intercooler too. Then slap on a blow-off valve for that "PSSSSSSSSSSTTTT" sound . Sup' wit dat?

Default SuperCharger

From what I got from the Stillen rep, the unit will add about 80 to 100 hp. He said the reason they could not fit it under the engine was because it has to bolt on to the manifold. He also hinted that a new manifold was in the kit. Personally, I think Stillen overcharges and I will probably just wait for Vortech to come out with a S/C. I have a Vortec Supercharger on my truck and it is great, it was very easy to install and they have helped me with any problems I had. I have not heard great reviews about Stillen.

Make sure all of you who leap for the first supercharge kit that comes out detail all the mistakes that are made and all the frustrations you experience. I am not going to do any mods until the late summer so that I can read about all the mistakes and avoid as much cost overuns as possible.

I noticed they now have a price posted on Stillen.com.
$3750. Not sure what all that includes.

Thumbs down

$3750 + $1000 for exhaust?!?!?!? If they are also charging $ for the hood, they must be kidding. That's $5-6k + install and paint for the hood. That's creeping up on $7k all said and done...that's getting into TT territory...hmmm. They don't even have power numbers up yet and they expect people to shell out that much dough?!?!? I guess it doesn't even matter though given the bad word of mouth that's thrown around about them. There probably won't be too many orders for this one.

Well, on the plus side, it looks like it leaves a nice gap in there for a competitor to release a reasonably priced kit. Come on Alpine Systems and Vortech!!!

What I really want to see is undercutting price wars...good for the consumer.

$3750 + $500 for hood = $4250

To compare to a similar set-up, Lingenfelter's SC kit for the C5's runs: $4950 + $750 for the hood = $5700 which increases hp to 490 with full exhaust (extra $)
(See http://www.lingenfelter.com/pac350magscc5.asp)

However, Lingenfelter offers a powertrain warranty covering any damage to the car for an additional $200-300.

So, in comparison their kit is not "too" badly priced. Though lingenfelter is also overpriced for what you get.

I think any SC or TC kits that are gonna be out there are gonna end up costing much more than the initial estimation. I find it hard to believe any twin-turbo kit for under $9,000 (maybe a single kit)
