Default Stage II vs Stage III

Since it doesn't look like anyone is going to get CARB for a TT kit, I am looking closer into the Stillen SC kit.

What are the differences between Stage II and Stage III on the Stillen SC kits?

Stillen's site takes you to the same page for both, and doesn't list the specifies of any of the stages.

The reason I ask is that Stage II is CARB legal, Stage III is not. I want to see what is involved in switching between the two for testing (My car starts testing in two years, so I need to be concerned). If its just an injector and a pully swap, it would be easy to go back and forth.

JWT *WILL* be getting carb approval. It's just a matter of time.

BTW, going from "oh I want TT" to getting a stillen S/C......you'd be MASSIVELY disappointed.....

I have been waiting for two years . Thats enough. I really can't see why there would be that much difference in real world performance running the same boost, and the stronger midrange of the SC would probably make it a better overall car for everyday use.

But, since my original question was not should I get a SC or a TT, can we get back on topic and can someone point me to where there are any DETAILS of what goes into each stage of the Stillen SC kits?

ok stage 1 is s/c,7th injector, fmc and related install components, stage 2 is the same as stage 1 but with intercooler,1 extra wire to hook up to the fmu (i guess it sends a signal to the fmu that its intercooled) and related install components.stage 3 is a 1 pound higher boost pulley.stage 4 is another 1 pound boost pulley, larger 7th injector, walbro 255 fuel pump, and remapped fmu box.btw all you need to change stage 3 pulley is a 7/32 allen wrench.i highly doubt anyone in cali. would no which color pulley stage 2 or 3 0r even 4 is.but to get the stage 3 pulley you have to give stillen the serial # off the s/c and there goes your warranty.btw chimmike is right the stillen is a great daily driver,no problems with mine in nearly 20,000 miles.a turbo on the other hand will eat the stillens lunch.if i could do it all over again it would be the tn st or the jwt tt,but back when i did mine there was nothing else out except the ati.that unit blew i think 4 of the first 6 motors.

You have a right to be concerned about CARB approval
I have seen a friend of mine have to go to a referee station and PROVE his stillen (truck) kit was carb exempt because it was missing a CARB sticker when a cop gave him a 'safety' inspection. Be real fun if he had a non-legal kit.
Why are there no exempt turbo kits?
the problem is the cold morning startup. Turbos absorb so much heat during the first few critical seconds of cat lightoff that getting it past tier1 much less tier 2 levels is nearly impossible. Just ask any manufacturer about USO6 testing... I wouldnt hold my breath waiting for any CARB legal kit involving a turbo. Jim is a sharp cookie, but kind of hard to beat big heat sinks in front of your cats....

Thanks a lot, just the info I wanted! While TTs will eat the stillen for lunch, being able to hook up the sniffer and not worry about the CARB ***** makes up for it in spades. Add to that the DD reliability, and I guess I have to forgo the stupid fast Z I have always dreamed of and "settle" for a very fast Z I can live with.

FWIW, I got a copy of the CARB executive order D-436-11 and indeed the stillen unit with a 2.2 pulley is CARB approved for 2003, 2004, 2005-2006.

did I just read this correctly? You don't think there will be much of a difference in two TOTALLY DIFFERENT FORMS OF FORCED IDUCTION simply because they run the same boost?

the JWT kit will make more power everywhere than the Stillen supercharger ever will. The stillen has good midrange, but nowhere NEAR that of the JWT twin turbo setup. Not even close.

the stillen kit is really NOT going to make your Z stupid fast. You might drop 4 tenths in the 1/4 mile over stock or bolted....but I wouldn't count on much more. a 13.5 is going to be your best hope.

I think you should be a little more patient and not jump into something you'll regret in a matter of months.

JWT has been saying just a few more months since late 2004. Do you know something that the rest of us don't?

I hear you on that last sentence. I would hate to regret spending that kind of money and be dissapointed. I there was any real evidence that CARB is going to happend, even in the next 6 months, I would hold off, but all I have seen is conjecture as to when it might happen. JWT and APS are making tons of money selling their kits without the hassle of CARB, so I really don't see them trying too hard to get this pushed through.

I see the JWT as being a more powerful version of the stillen kit in a lot of ways. Lots of low and midrange, but the high end starts to level off

The only dif between stage 2 and 3 is one pulley. Easy to change.

I'd call them instead of listening to the conjecture on the board here

Just a pulley. Makes around 15-20 WHP. Realistically if you get 320 WHP with any Stillen count your blessings. It is an awesome solution, the BIGGEST PROBLEMS ARE THE BELTS BREAKING ALL OF THE TIME.

I have owned 3 Stillen SC and they are wonderful to MILDLY pep your car up for sure, just hate the belts Stillen is shipping. I like JWT TT kits better cause they are conservative and make more power, yet still not CARB!

Goodluck.

Mike of VRT - was abused when he first came on this site.. ME - I apologize to Mike. So he is shy when it comes to declarations......

Mike is hesident to say - That his G35Coupe on the crappy Stillen Dyno (No af ratio) with the JWT TT kit ran a 609wrhp at 639 Wtourque a weekend ago.

The power is a magnitude greater than any "Belt driven Device"

Now do you understand?

Cheers Amy -

Appreciate the Props Amy...No hard feelings! We came out a little confident cause we were proud of our initial cars and videos.

It is nice a year later to be working on more and more wonderful cars, and for the press to start reconizing both JWT and our VRT hardwork. It Really Isn't Work cause we love what we are doing and taking the cars to tracks like CalSpeedway and competing against raced out Porsche's, Ferraris, Vettes, and Supras makes it even more fun.

Thanks again Amy for the kind words and we hope like all of you JWT gets Carb, yet that is not stopping us from enjoying our cars TODAY.

How would this work?

Get the Stillen II installed and get the carb sticker. Then go with the pulley that gives the most boost and add bigger injectors and a UTEC. Then maybe a fuel system upgrade just to keep things more controllable.

I wonder if the Stillen SC would be better when setup this way.

Mike,
I think the main misunderstanding people had here, is that they didn't know Clark and Jim at JWT were doing the tuning on the vehicles, ( I spoke with Clark last week so I know the intimate details of the motor, but I won't share, I promise) and I know that with them behind the helm tuning, the motor is in good hands.

Ken,

We tried almost every angle...The blower, regardless of the fuel, injectors, whatever, has its limitations. Like the way a turbo can be maxed out, a blower can as well. As mentioned, if you have a Stillen set-up and make 320+ WHP, count your blessings. It is safe, reliable (otherthan the belts) and easy to install.

Yet if you want more power than that, go with a trust worthy TT system and have a great installer and tuner do the job.

ChimMike, No Problems. We are lucky to be here close to JWT. They help us and we help them. They are great people for they concentrate on QUALITY NOT QUANTITY.

That means a lot to us. Hell, just think, they could blow their kits out today in huge volume, make a bunch of $$$, and the likely hood have all kinds of problems becuase people screw up the installs or change their system. They are conservative and are simply being patient, not greedy to insure their kits are the best with the best installers.

M
