Default Draining fuel tank?

I am installing the APS ST right now.

I need to drain the 89 octane fuel that I have in my tank right now and put in 94 octane. If I remember correctly, there is about 1/4 tank of gas. Is there a line under the hood which I can disconnect, turn the key to the on position, and the fuel pump will pump the fuel out or do I need to run a tube down the gas pouring spout and siphon it out?

I checked the service manual, and the fuel tank is one big tank that goes from behind the drivers seat up and down again behind the passenger seat. How does the gas stay level in there?

any help would be much appreciated!

thanks
Gary

Hi Gurp, there is no need to drain your tank. After your install, just drive your car gently (no boost) and refill your tank with the proper octane fuel. You'll be fine.

Just put in some 100 octane fuel for your first fill up. No need to drain your tank.

theres really no easy way to drain a tank, i had to go to a car show, and to get in to HIN, i had to have a 1/8th of a tank, i filled up on the way there. I went to a local garage, and tried to have the guy suck out the gas, but theres a screen that stops the tube...pretty much i had to drive the hell put of the car till i was at a 8th.....jeff gordon style on I-35 baby....took about a hour and a half

I had to comment on this! The same thing happened to me at the Chantilly show. I noticed that as stated on the confirmation letter it said 1/4 tank. Of course I get there late because sometimes with friends distractions and mapquest this happens. Anywho I pull up they said 1/8 tank or no dice and I have 5min before it's too late. A cop gave me permission to do what I needed. Ong story short. I loosened the bolts holding the fuel pump down so it would read less. One of the workers saw that we didn't drain any fuel but just gave me props on a good idea, agreed the rule was not properly stated, and let me in. booyaacaashaa! If was like an episode of Build or Bust.

pour in some toulene (apprx 114-116 oct), that'll bring the lower octane right on up!

(can buy it at large paint suppliers in a 5 gallon drum)

Here is the trick I use for car shows. Just pull the accessories fuse on the lower kick panel (its either called accessorie or electric...cant remember). When you do this, the gauges stop working. When I pull in, I just kill the engine, and turn the key to the on position. Waaallllaaa! My fuel tank is empty, and the low fuel indicator is on.

So what is the purpose of only being able to have 1/8th tank of gas for car shows ?

Yeah, just read the other day that I should be using 91 octane. I've been running 89 since I've had the car....sometimes even 87! Not because I'm cheap, but I never knew!!
