I dont believe they're kevlar. We're trying to get some polymer chain belts that will fit.

We're going to keep it here for now and take the car back to Vortech for a redesign of the pulleys and belts, using thicker and wider belts.

I'll get more pics up soon.

Thanks.
Were you still at 15psi ? And some thing else I was thinking about , Is the cog pulley thats bolted to the crank pulley , the same size as the crank pulley ? Or is it smaller ?

No, we upgraded to a 18psi pulley. It looks to be the same size as the crank pulley. Boog - it looks like the cog pulley is around 3-4inches away from the radiator.

I thought I saw that kinda fuel set-up somewhere. My buddy owns the silver Z with the SGP motor, PE TT, & similar fuel set-up. Those guys are good. I'd have them do my car but I don't have that type of $$. Anyways, I ran into one of your buddies at the bar last night & I told him I wanted to run you sometime. Forget the HP, I'm more concerned about the TQ. I'll be at the Huntington meet, can't wait to see that thing in person. Peace

Well at least Vortech is doing something (albeit not very publicly) about the obvious belt squeal issue.

That, I know. But having to tighten it every few weeks is really not the best solution. The second pulley idea should help a lot I would think.

To me though, it is something that we shouldn't have to do at all. Doesn't matter if it takes 5 mins or 5 hours. I just think that Vortech could have designed it better.

Man I feel your pain, both Procharger & Vortec suffer from the same issues with high boost applications. Good luck!

No, we havent' gone to wider belts yet, but i'm thinking thats the plan when I take it back to Vortech in a couple weeks. We did reset the rev limiter from 8000 to 7200 which has been fine so far, no belt breakage. Thank you!

After we shredded a dozen belts at high boost on both Ktaylor's car, and trefling's car...posted above...I am convinced that the Kevlar reinforced belts are the ONLY way to go. We tried medium, loose, and tight adjustments on the belts, and they all snapped as we approached 500whp. Alignment was perfect.

KTaylor showed me the thicker and wider kevlar belts. They look like a part off an M1 Tank. KTaylor can probably put you in touch with the supplier, or maybe Vortech has another source for them.

I can,t see why you Vortech Guys don't use My Belt/Pulley redesign. I'm Making 12.5lbs of Boost, Works Fine........ One (1) adjustment in 15,000+ MILES. Never Squeals. Never Boost Loss. Before this I was adjusting the belt every 100 Miles. Not saying this would work for 18+ lbs of Boost, But I think this design with 10 rib pulleys would do the job.

TIMROD
Not saying your idea isnt a good one , or wouldnt help a little . But the belt slipping issue at higher boost levels [ 13psi and above ] is going to happen regaurdless of how you have the pulleys set up . With the stock set up , Im getting belt slippage at 13psi @5900rpm to redline . Before I went to the bigger IC . The belt started slipping at 13psi @ 6300rpm to redline . A serp belt with our kit will not grab after 13psi . The PSI between the blower and IC I would think would be 2 to 5 psi higher .
