The JWT uses an in tank boost actuated fuel pressure regulator. The APS doesn't. APS High Output uses an external upgraded regulator. Have another beer.

The APS fuel system that is included with their base TT setup includes a boost actuated fuel pressure regulator. Rises one to one with boost.

In order to ensure precise fuel pressure delivery at high horsepower levels, a 4.0 Bar fuel pressure regulator replaces the stock 3.5 Bar unit. In addition the APS fuel pressure regulator is vacuum/pressure referenced to the engine's intake manifold, therefore the regulator is mounted on the outside of the stock fuel pump/sender unit - and housed in a custom high flow housing assembly. In this way, fuel pressure across each injector orifice is maintained at a constant level regardless of the turbocharger boost pressure level

I have a question for VRT. It appears that from what I undestand that JWT is strictly a bolt on kit. When I say that I mean the split second box on a stock motor is sent tuned from JWT. So therefore similar to the stillen supercharger there is no real tunning if you run the stock boost level on the JWT kit. Is this right? Is it possible that different tuners have ideas what is safe, and thats what might cause some failures on other motors etc. How do you guys feel about the fact that the JWT kit comes pretuned?

The Split Second box is tunable with their R4 software. To my knowledge it doesn't come pre-tuned. (Note: My knowledge hasn't been entirely reliable in this thread)

The JWT TT is not a "kit" per se. They do not sell it to the public for tuners or DIY enthusiasts. They only sell it through a couple of installers. On the west coast only VRT, who are located in El Cajon along with JWT, do the installations, with a JWT trained mechanic. Then, Jim and Clark themselves personally tune each vehicle. Candidly piano tuners spend less time and precision doing a Steinway Concert Grand than these gents spend on your car getting it to be the way that satisfies them. It is their unit, that is the way that they want it done, and they are not in it for selling lots of units.

But it gets results.

The reason I ask is because a local shop I know has been working with jim wolfe for years, and they approached him to install the JWT kit. I have had several phone calls and conversations with the shop whom I know very well. Jim Wolfe has provided them with a kit for installation. I was approached with a small sponsorship opportunity if they would allow me to use my car as there first JWT install. According to them the Split second box will come from JwT already tuned for my car. I am still working out the specifics but thats my understanding.

The SS box should have a good base tune from Jim Wolf. But with that particular EMS it doesn't hurt to tune it for your location...

It is possible. I know a lot of tuners all over the country have been asking for it. What he decides to do and with whom is his business. What I do know is that he does not want any customer any where to put on his turbo system and have it blow up a motor. He is very much concerned about customers being fully knowledgeable about FI, and the tuners having the integrity to select the customers properly from among the throngs that think they want it, but do not know or cannot properly afford the economic risks, or responsibly handle the power. He has a fine business and a marvelous reputation in the industry. He does not need any complications in his life. He is not a faceless company...his name is on the letterhead, and that matters.

I have to admit that JWT does seem to have a really nice kit. All things aside from design and what not, I would never install it on my car as a "kit". That is the biggest mistake that most Z owners made in the early FI days. I think that the JWT has great potential but no matter what I would add a few things to the kit just to be safe and would tune no matter what.

I agree. And I think that is an important element of working with someone as opposed to buying a "kit". You can then install the additional features that are important to you more safely. I put lots of tweaks into my set up that were not part of the standard fare. Thermal coatings, filtration systems, cooling (oil, power steering), fluidamper, and of course other things with respect to the engine build itself. And THEN tuned it so it would be a perfect match to the set up on the car that I would use. Be safe, be careful....and then be happy.

From what understand from my conversation, the JWT twins are supposed to be a kit. Jim Wolfe has been running tests on bone stock cars with the tt kits on them. I guess he stands behind the kit as a straight bolt on. I am not saying that some things may make a kit safer etc. But the JWT kit on a stock motor according to all my conversations requires nothing for it to run as safely as his test mules.

Every company does that and can make the same claim. But due to cicurmstance usually out of the companies control things happen. People install it wrong, up the boost, install parts from other companies, etc.

I guess what I am trying to say I was offered an amazing deal on purchase and install of the JWT kit. JWT will be working with the shop via phone to make sure the install goes well. Any way The "sponsorship" is that I have to run the stock kit on my car. I guess since there are very few JWT in the South East that they want a car to rep the kit. This is why im asking weather or not its safe to run the kit on my car without tunning since JWT states the ems is plug and play. Just wanted some feedback, if it was your car would you do it?

Where do they state that the EMS is plug and play? Or is that what they told the installer?

Always always always dyno tune an FI installation from the start. These are not fender whiskers where the consequences are immaterial in almost all circumstances. You simply cannot expect any kit for FI from any manufacturer to be something you bolt on and then drive away with, and which any manufacturer would represent, that is totally safe to run just like that.

Knowing how careful Jim and Clark are, in fact downright fussy to be sure it is done "right"........there is something very inconsistent about somebody telling you that the set up is "plug and play" from JWT........They would not say that themselves.

Maybe the tuner you are dealing with is saying that is the case, but where this is really at is what is actual content of the conversation between JWT and the tuner, and behind that, what is the business motivation of JWT to get the kits to the southeast, or anywhere else for that matter, when they are not willing to sell kits at large in the first place? There are people in the eastern US with JWT units. A piece is missing. Maybe more than one.

Just telling you what I have been told I havent spoken to jim wolfe personally. BUt I do know that my tuner has, and they known each other for years. There are almost no kits in the south FLorida area what so ever. I do understand that every car with fi should be dyno tuned, I am not new to the scene, as i have had a Supercharged 350Z since 2005 and a highly modified 95 Z32 tt. I was going to go the greddy route with utec etc. But when I was approached and told that it was a plug and play kit with the JWT and the price was right, I considered it. I will take this input to my tuner and get his feed back. Just to reiterate. I was told that the kit will be supplied by JWT with NO tunning necessary, i was told this directly fomr my tuner after he got off the phone with Jim Wolfe. Of course the car nees to hit a dyno for AFR etc, if everything checks out then the car will be ready to run. Now That is what I was told. I dont feel i would be lied to maybe my tuner misunderstood, but he has been working with JWT for years and years. So I will see if i can get on a conference call with Jim Wolfe. I have consulted him in the past with a tuner on my Z32. We were having trouble with the timing from the JWT ecu being different then the base timming. Ash powers and I spoke to him and had it worked out in ten minutes. Very knowledgable guy. So I guess i will try that route.
