Someone is wondering about TN ST's "not making a lot of power" (must be someone with a Supra syndrome). Here is a very simple explanation, and it has nothing to do with PSI, or CFM or whatever. Just basic mentality. There seems to be a very popular belief here that twins are the way to go. A lot of ST users bought what they did b/c of price difference. Not everyone could or wanted to pay a 3-3.5K premium to get a TT kit. So if the price difference is an issue, who do you think is more likely to build the motor? Hence the relatively low # of ST users throwing big hp around. Majority of people who werein the market for FI and a built motor ended up going with twins.

What? I thought the 60-1 just blows hot air past 15psi or so...

Its loses efficiency rapidly past 15 PSI. The compressor wheel sweet spot is at or around 15 PSI. It is capable of pressurizing air up to 26 PSI while still being on the efficiency island but the efficiency of the compressor has dropped drastically at that level...

So what a turbo is capable of pressurizing doesnt really matter if it cant do it efficiently then correct? Kinda threw me off as you first said said the "efficiancy island is 26psi" then you said "it loses efficiency rapidly past 15psi"

Correct. The max compression a specific wheel can actually compress to and what it can compress to efficiently is two different things. While the turbo can make 26 PSI it would be done very inefficiently and end up casuing the air to be heated far more then it should. Roughly 18-20 PSI is the highest the 60-1 wheel will compress and maintain the higher efficiency band. After that the drop off is pretty severe. At 26 PSI its in its least efficient band...

On the Stage 1 turbo its possible but boost pressure will probably be a bit higher then that. More like 15-18 PSI.

Actually with a t66 at 15psi it made 485whp safe and 17 hits 500whp we dynoed the car. On the stock t60 it will be very hard and not nearly as efficent.

That would be amazing! Do you know when you are looking to switch your turbo. I may be interested in buying your T60 off of you.

Is it possible to just install a T66 inplace of a T60 and just run the stock boost for now. And then later after you build the engine you could increase the psi higher?
I'm asking because maybe I can just buy the T66 now and save some money but still run the stock psi which is 8-9 psi right?
Are there extra parts I would have to buy now or is it a straight swap of turbos.
Thanks

Because 8 PSI on a T66 is not the same as 8 PSI on a 60-1. And you might surge the T66 trying to run lower then that.
