Hey guys,
A buddy took his G into the Nissan dealer to get a JWT clutch/fly combo installed in preparation for his T-netics kit install. Problem is that the mechanic backed off the bolts and 1 actually pulled the threads out with the bolt. It must have been a reaction with the lock-tite and the steel. Dealer will not cover the crank damages under warranty because they are not an Infiniti dealer. Now the dealer is saying they could install a helicoil but it would most likely not get the 95 ft.lbs of torque needed. We thought of maybe drilling and tapping for a larger flywheel bolt from something like a Titan. Any ideas???

hmm crazy. no such thing as a metal reacting with loctite. Tell the mechnic to fix up his mistake and stop bugging u. If he doesnt want to fix it, tow it to an infiti dealer and get them to pay the expenses.
If a flywheel bolt of a different mass than the others is used, I believe it will offset the balancing of the crank/flywheel. You might want to investigate this a little further before tapping.
there is no way the loctite completely ruined the threads. even if they screwed up a couple, its nothing that running a thread chaser thru would not fix. if the threads are 100% unusable then my best guess is that the tech may of messed up installing the new stuff and is covering it up with this story. a couple chewed up threads is not a big deal and a chaser will clean them up and it wont be a problem, if they havent made things worse by screwing with it, i would suggest they attempt that first.
lets hope they are over reacting and have not been screwing with it much... a tap or thread chaser might be all that is needed here.
dealer mechanics typically have no idea how to solve a problem that isnt covered in their step by step manuals... there are some good ones out there tho.

HeliCoil WILL take 95 ft lbs if installed correctlly ----Cool thing bout Heli Coils is that the harder u pull --the tighter they get. A coil will take more torque than just a tapped thread. BUT tell the idiot NOT to LocTite the coil. Either way ---They F*** up. As to how it happened --I dont have a clue.

have them fix it..putting a different flywheel on there is not a viable option, IMHO. Stuff like this happens all the time, and can be fixed....if they use their heads.

Im under the understanding this is the flywheel bolt going into the crank not the flywheel bolt attaching the pressure plate----- Pressure plate bolt is a piece of cake. A Flywheel/Crank bolt is a tad bit more of a prob---If they in fact scewed that up,, I still go with ^^^^ Above ^^^^ as a legit fix. ( By rights they owe u a crank plus Bearings ) There again if Im understanding this right --I cant for the life of me figure out how this happened. Doesent make sense.
And for whats its worth ---Drill and Tap for a bigger bolt is just plain sloppy- as far as affecting Balance, It is so close to the the center of the radius it would have vertually no affect.
Im going to get BLASTED for this I know!!!! Two occasions due to Serious Deadline and late nite Crammin to meet it. I had to leave a bolt out because the Gremlins hid it and there was no replacement. One was a Dodge Cummins and the other a Ford Powerstroke ( Lotsa Torque ) But both have been runnin fine for 5-6 years now. Point is --I would rather leave it out than drill and tap for bigger----The Lesser of two Sloppys!!!!!

True..this is the bolt attaching the flywheel to the crank itself. Dealer has told him it is not their problem and the Infiniti dealer will not take it as a warranty repair. They are going to go with the helicoil and see if they can get the stock torque with the JWT flywheel. If they can get it to work then he is going to continue with the T-netics install. We will know tommorrow.
your having the dealer install a turbo kit?!?!?! as phunk stated, alot of dealer mechs simply don't know things with high performance applications, just what a factory service manual will tell them or general info required to get ase certified. don't get me wrong, i know some out there are good, but in my experience, i have had mostly problems with the dealers even completing warranty stuff.
hope you have good luck with it.
