ThermoTec makes a copper impregnated header wrap that they claim to be 30% more effective than current technology.

I was going to order their black wrap, but thought I ask here first.

BTW, this is for wrapping the pipes on a TN ST install.

hahah.. I haven't used the copper stuff, but I've got the black (carbon) wrap on mine now and it works just fine. The copper stuff might at least look cool in the engine bay but I doubt you will notice any performance increase.

I think I'd prefer the black look, but if the copper stuff can hold in 30% more heat, that may keep underhood temps down even lower!

i am making myself paranoid over the Turbonetics A/C problems some people have had.

BTW, did you use the hi-temp coating (silicon paint stuff) over the wrap, but did you just use the wrap?

The silver one fits the Turbonetics Turbo, and very quick shipping from them.

Forged Performance just finished installing the new A/C line, I heat wrapped with the adhesively backed reflect tape. Heat wrapped all the turbo exhaust side pipes with that premium heat wrap, swapped out that foil heat shield that comes with the TN kit with the turbo exhaust heat blanket, and I think they just used regular steel wire than the ties I bought to hold the wrap in place...

Sharif@Forged has told me she blows ice cold, and we both def. agree this shouldn't happen again

 

Peking do you have that Boost Logic turbo blanket on? I've been eyeing it for a LONG time (since I first got the kit), but haven't had a reason to take everything out and install it (besides the spacer).

I'm probably going to be doing the wastegate relocation soon and might just throw it on while I've got it broken down.



I just bought a single 50 foot roll of Thermotec black wrap, in 2" with, and was able to cover my entire hot side with it. I used the SS wraps to tie it off. Just be careful, those little ties are SHARP.

My wrap isn't totally black as some of it will wash off upon installing, but its still a dark color and you can't even really see it in the engine bay. I'm guessing the copper stuff might hold color better.

I'm wary about the whole 30% more heat resistance thing. The header wrap is VERY efficient at blocking heat as it is.

And, for the record, my stock exhaust manfiolds are 2000 deg coated, and the hot turbo piping is only header wrapped.


My car has no issues running in all conditions in the florida heat.

Im getting the tn kit this week, so im curious about
all this kind of stuff. Does the blanket that comes with
the kit not work too well. Should i order extra wrap for the
downpipe, and get this turbo blanket now before install?
Should i wrap anything else? I never had to research this
kind of stuff with the vortech.

It works, I guess though it is not a "blanket" more like a reflective dish lol. But the blanket covers it more so keeps the heat down.

I would def. order the heat wrap and the blanket (like from the links I provided above) and don't just heat wrap the down pipe... Heat wrap all the exhaust side pipes.

Keep it as cool as you can

 

I just got my turbo jacket. Expensive as sh*t. But it is well built, and looks like it will work as advertised. I am using JET-HOT 2000 coating on all my exhaust pipes in the engine compartment, and Alphawerks headers.



I'm going to keep an extinguisher near by just incase this thing bursts into flames when it's on the dyno.

thanks for all the replies. Peking, you suggestions came at just the right time. when you posted up your stuf, i was just about to finish my order on summitracing.com.

here what I ended up ordering:

(1) 2"x50' roll of thermotec copper wrap (for all the exhaust piping, downpipe, etc)
(1) 1'x50' roll of thermotec copper wrap ( for the small pipes like the wastegate pipes)
(2) cans of thermotec copper hightemp spray on stuff
(1) 20' of the reflect-a-tape from heatshieldperformance
MVP silver turbo blanket. that looks awesome!
(1) V8 pack of thermotec snap straps

I think that is all of it.
