Is the Stillen Split Second Box Locked?!?
So I just got my old stage 2 split second box out of the garage and decided to open it up. Well look at that... there is a serial port on the inside! I have always been told the box is locked and can't be tuned because there is no serial port. Maybe there is hope. We'll see soon.

They claim its locked but any thing is doable.I think VRT has been adjusting the tune for quite some time now.I know of one person that was doing his own tune when the stillen first came out. I think his car was a test car dont remember for sure.I could be wrong.

Well, since someone already posted that they Already did it, ... yeah, it's possible.
Split Second has a bunch of different products/options for various apps ...

So i guess it depends upon what Stillen (or whomever else uses it) starts out with to determine what you could do with it.
SFR uses the split second FTC to tune for their turbo kit, ... and it has quite a bit of adjustability.
Tim at SFR would be able to tell you a lot about it.

My dyno guy said that might be the case but he thinks he can just start from scratch with a full new tune instead of trying to modify the one on there.
Has anyone tried that?

It shouldnt be hard at all . You basicly leave the vacuum side of the fuel map alone and let the stock ECU take care of that . Ive redone mine totally several times . As long as the 9 pin hook up is inside of the box to hook up to . Watch out when up loading the maps off the SS box . Some of the settings change on you .

Thanks.
Was this on one of the Stillen boxes or an open one like the Vortech comes with?
Was there ever a definitive answer on this issue? (The STILLEN split second box, not any others). Sam at Stillen told me they locked the timing adjustment portion (Map B), but didn't say anything like that about the fuel side of it (Map A).
I spoke to Xact Dyno here in AZ and Tim thought he could just start from scratch and make a complete new tune on it. He said if it is locked you can't mess with their tune but it won't stop you from doing your own.
Well, I have the definitive answer. You CAN tune the Stillen SS box. I took the stock preprogrammed tune, and adjusted it to fix all the lean/rich spots, and smoothed out the A/F curve pretty significantly. Didn't mess with the timing, though...
No, there is a connector in side. You just have to remove about 4 screws to open the top of the SS box. You need a 9-pin female-male serial cable, and of course a laptop with the same connector.
