Default Another DJ/DD Dyno Comparison (pics)..and a Tomei 268 vs. JWT S1 test to boot!

Well, I finally got the chance to actually work on my own car! So last weekend, we removed the engine, installed our L19 upgraded ARP head studs (trqed to 90ft/lbs), and rev up oil pump, in preparation for some serious power numbers. I didnt get a chance to install a stage II fuel system, so that will have to wait. Decided to see what we could do with just a single Walbro 255 and 650cc injectors, with 42psi of fuel pressure (vaccum line attached).

Shortlist of mods: Darton 3.8L block, Arias ED pistons 9.0:1, TD-06/60-1 turbo upgrade..Greddy kit Tomei 268 cams...and a bunch of other stuff...all tuned with the UTEC.

Prior to this latest teardown, I tuned my car to 421whp (DynoDynamics...no BS extra correction), at 8psi. Lets just say, that "someone...not me" had a case of the butter-fingers, and one of my precious Tomei 268 cams hit the ground, and snapped in half...it was a horrible site.
So I ended up putting in a set of JWT S1 cams, since we had a couple extra sets at the shop. With no change in AF ratios, or change in anything...didnt even have my laptop hooked up....we dynoed 416whp, for a net loss of 5whp (From dyno run...to teardown/reassembly..and back on the dyno: Entire duration was 3 days) Just thought I would share....at low boost, there was little difference in power between the Tomei 268 and the JWT S1 camshafts. I know it was totally unscientific, but I think its the first back to back comparo of these two camshafts.

Ok, now to the dyno comparison. So now that we had our upgraded studs, and oil pump in place, it was time to make some power. Based on the duty cycles I am seeing, I think there is enough fuel for a couple more PSI. Once I see that fuel pressure gauge start to flicker at high boost...that is when I stop.

Here are the final numbers. Note the dates on the dyno charts. I took my car to the dynojet the very next day, and weather/ambient conditions were very close. I just wanted to share another comparison between the Dyno Jet and Dyno Dynamics dyno. Take it for what's its worth. Forged Performance will not use additional correction...our numbers are lower....but our cars are faster....and our tunes are safer.

15psi
Dyno Dynamics: 525whp STD Correction
Dyno Jet: 606 STD Correction
Dyno Jet: 598 SAE Correction

Enjoy!

It went great....everyone had an awesome time...about 75 cars, and 100 people attended. Here is a teaser pic:

I saw the dynojet number in your car while I was at your shop, nice to see the comparison between the two dynos. Great numbers, my 330 whp sure did walk a new cobra with a pulley upgrade later that night... Lower numbers but the cars are much faster, lol.

I demonstrated some amazing restraint when I saw the Tomei 268 cracked in half like a tooth pic. All good now.

sweet deal with a difference like that, ... it's hard to answer someone 'not-in-the-know' how much HP your car makes... a simple question could turn into a 15 minute lecture. lol

btw, do you have the nissan part number for the rev up oil pump? How much better flow is it supposed to get than the non-revup models? Or compared to the NISMO oil pump? THanks, ... sorry for being a bit off topic..

We have the rev-up pumps in stock for $200 shipped, or you can get them from your local nissan dealer PN 15010-AC700. The rev-up pumps are rated at a higher RPM cycle, due to the higher red line on the 05-06 300hp engines. They are basicallly the same price as a normal pump, so its a no-brainer really. The nismo pump is close to $1000, and is probably rated even higher, but they are special order only, and too expensive for most people.

Nice numbers Sharif. Very enlightening comparison between the dynos. I assume that's on pump gas 93 octane?

Make sure you keep "butter fingers" away from my motor.

so is anyone still going around saying the dynodynamics dynos and dynojets put out the same numbers?

all these dynos are different and set up different, but I still think there's an average of 10-12% diff between DD and DJ

Awesome Sharif! I just got your message this morning as I was a 3 day cruise over the weekend. So my 510whp and 490ft/tq on your dyno would 576whp and 539ft/tq on that dyno jet.

Now, I wonder how the Dynapack would compare?

Well, in all fairness, Sam tuned your car on my dyno at 900ft elevation, under certain atmospheric conditions. And I believe it was about 4-6 weeks between the DD tune, and the DJ power test. It wouldnt surprise me if the tune shifted a little bit (richer), causing most of that power difference.

This is probably the closest comparison anyone has posted so far. No changes at all, and dyno to dyno in less than 24 hours.
