Default JWT Twin Turbo kit install.. :)

First off.. I've got to give a big "thanks" to Jim/Clark at JWT.. for getting us one of their TT kits... I appreciate it big time.. We've been wanting to try one out for a while, now.. and one of my good friends just purchased a 03 350z.. So, after some sweet-talking.. these guys hooked us up.. Also, thanks to the fellow from VRT(Mike.. I think?), for the help over the phone at JWT the other day.. Your pointers definately saved us from some headaches!

Secondly.. I have to say.. that this kit is absolutely amazing.. The quality, the craftsmanship, and the scrutiny to detail makes it a hit, in my book.. I have NEVER seen a kit with such detailed instructions, parts in sealed bags, which were labeled.. and just, overall.. a very well designed system. We didn't have to buy a single hose, clamp, zip tie.. or anything.. you name it, it was included! JWT has definately put some R&D into this system.. and it shows..

The install took us roughly 2 days to complete.. and, I'll admit.. it wasn't very fun. With so little room to work with.. it's just the nature of the beast when trying to perform a install such as this one. Nevertheless, after a lot of cussing, wrench tossing.. and even a superglued nut to a finger , the car runs flawlessly.. even through the bone-stock 5AT trans. There is no slippage whatsoever, at 7psi of boost.. and A/F hovers around 11.2-11.5:1 under boost. Driveability is absolutely perfect.. no problems whatsoever. The twin ball-bearing turbochargers sound amazing.. even through the stock cats.. The car sports a Borla catback as well..

Here's a few pics from the install..

Taking it all in... Definately a butt-load of bits/pieces..

Munchies to hold us over while working..

We discovered that you can use QR25DE (4 cylinder) exhaust manifold studs, instead of grinding the VQ35DE studs down for clearance.. The QR studs are shorter, and clear on both sides, without any modification whatsoever, as shown in the pic above..

A pic, showing the difference in stud length.. between the QR25DE and VQ35DE

This intercooler idea is ingenious.. and is a work of art..

The finished product.. This kit is f-ing sweet!

Awesome fitment.. We only had to trim the lower part of the bumper VERY slightly.. and move the power steering cooler above the intercooler.

To sum it all up... this was a very straight forward install.. thanks to the very detailed instructions, provided with the kit. THAT was critical, in installing this system.. Without the great instruction layout.. things would have been much more difficult. The car makes great power.. and is going on the dyno next week. The butt-dyno feels up around 400whp.. and it feels really nice, even with the automatic trans.. I would definately recommend that you guys jump on this system, when you have the chance to..

He's running a Borla catback.. but, he's going to keep the cats in place (for emissions purposes). The goal, was to build a driveable, and completely manageable setup.. without having check engine lights.. and other problems. This kit has definately exceeded our expectations!

Very nice Travis. Will he be taking it to the track anytime soon?

It's been a while since I've gone out there.

If you were to do it again would you pull the engine to make it easier?

I had to pull a lot of favors to get it.. lol.. And I certainly do appreciate Clark/Jim allowing us to get our hands on one.

Yeah... the studs fit perfectly.. I did a rain dance and clacked some bones around to ward off any evil QR25DE spirits..

That's hard to say.. because, honestly, I'm not sure which would have been more time consuming.. The install wasn't terribly long.. it was just tedious.. because of the angles and tight spaces.. But, I'd say that 2 days isn't too bad, for a kit of this magnitude.

yeah and I was thinking, the header studs are prolly the only reliable thing on the QR

you should get your hands on a TN kit and see how that install is, too

The next order of business, will probably be a 6spd swap.. Or a built auto with a higher stall.. The stock auto is pretty smooth, but, the car is begging for a manual trans..

Congrats on the install Travis. And thanks for posting pics of the install and your opinions. That is what we are all about. Good hard work and honest assessments.

I have ridden in Noah's JWT, and if I had to do it all over again I would probably switch up. The JWT kit is very nice, smooth and drives just like stock (with 200 extra hp.. )

Yeah Yeah...this is nice Trav....two questions since you take extended vacation from the maxima commiunty...(LOL):

1. Whats the status of the FI VQ35 IM that you posted up on maxima.org?

2. Whats the status of the drag maxima?

Hit me in a PM or something.

lol..

The drag Maxima project is coming together slowly.. I'm waiting for the welder to finish TIG'ing the upper plenum, and I have to finish the transmission, so I can get it into the car. I've been working on it a little at a time.. as I am juggling about 10 different projects right now. It's getting there.. I'll post pics on the .org when I have some updates..
