Well, I purchased an APS ST recently and had it installed by an authorized APS dealor...They called me today and told me that the car is smoking like crazy because of the lack of a solenoid upgrade that is supposed to come with the kit?? Can someone explain to me what the solenoid upgrade is and what it does? I'm new to the turbo thing.....thanks in advance...
its an electronic check valve i think they are referring to. email peter at aps and he should be able to help you out. i didnt have that issue with my install so i didnt need the vavle. you can call james at car version 2 (www.carv2.com) in delaware and he should be able to give you a more detailed answer.

The solenoid is just an electronic solenoid that replaces the mechanical check valve that the kits orginally shipped with. If your shop is an authorized dealer, they should have taken care of this without even mentioning it to you.

you are right, but at least peter can give him a detailed explaination of the problem. obviously the shop hasnt dealt with the issue before. me, i like to be informed of what it is i'm looking for before i start replacing stuff. it might not even be the solenoid. i have a g35 and when they install my kit it was smoking too. not because of a check valve issue, but because aps didnt include a wiring diagram for the scavenging pump on the g35. after that fix, my car ran fine.

So we are trying the selonoid fix first in hopes that it is not the turbo. Normally you have to go through the dealer you purchased the kit from but I believe it was purchased from a non APS dealer so we are trying to take care of it and get the parts directly from APS, already talked to them last night and should have something in a few days.
in PM he told me the situation. I said Gus in the on case, no worries. the way the post was made, it sounded like he was resorting to online help becasue his shop was stumped. Obviously not the case. Irshad @ GRD might have some solenoids he could send you if it comes down to it.
Good luck

I got the kit from vivid racing....1st mistake, and they are giving me the run around with the whole situation, hopefully its not the turbo because I will be raising hell if it is. However a lot of aps dealors, including japtrix, told me that the smoking is a result of a non-upgraded solenoid, but we'll see....
japtrix is really helping me out and didn't mean to make it sound like it was the installer's fault, i just hope everything is okay.
