They take your money... paying insurance on the car... but won't let you drive it... and won't pay for any repairs or damages relative to said vehicle?

Wow. What a great deal!!! ...for them.

I've never heard of anything like that. May as well let it sit in your garage and not touch it... and not even get insurance on it.

I've never heard of having an insurance policy that excluded you from driving the vehicle... jeez, wouldn't that exclude the insurance policy?

Sorry about your car. Glad you're OK.

When i originaly got the car back in 03, i did a straw purchase, which is ILLEGAL, i just found out, for a dealership to sell me this car like that. Furthermore, i have 3 cars, but on my insurance i am "excluded" from driving my 350z (which i have been driving for 3 years) and my es330 lexus which i am on the title as the owner) the only car i am allowed to drive i was told is my 06 tahoe. I called my insurance and asked them hoe is this crap possible, especially with my lexus (its a gift i bought for my mom) They told me that she signed a paper 3 years ago, excluding me from driving these cars. WTF??? how can you exclude the owner from driving there own car? They also told me they will not cover my neighbors car. My neighbors insurance called me, and explained the exclusion, but then asked if i have a seperate policy, which i do, my tahoe is on that one. They said, i am insured and that my insurance should cover this, so hopefully i can at least fix my neighbors car.

Now comes my tears, they arent going to do anything about my car, i pay 620 a month plus 230.00 a month in insurance, notto mention the 20k in mods i have. Even if i fix it, i found out i can not drive it. I dont really know what is going on, this is the worst day of my life. The insurance is blaming my mother for this, saying that she did that to save money, now my mother is blaming the insurance, Me and my mother have never really been on good terms, its hard to say that about your mom, but i feel like i am getting screwed so hard, i pay for this womens car, mortgage, whatever. My dream car is now a tin can in my driveway.

I hate to say it, but i think this is it for my Z, if and when i do find out who is screwing me. Family or the insurance, if its the insurance i will hire a lawyer and do what i can do. If i found out my mother did some shady chit to my insurance, i am literally going to strip my Z down to the frame and sell every part, bolt...whatever you can think of. I still owe 15k on this car, and i swear if i find out my mother excluded me on my own car to save insurance money, im taking back my lexus and giving back her Z...actually giving her back a frame, which will ruin her credit!, yes its pretty chitty to have to do that, but i paid 37k for this car, added another 20k, this is about a 60k car to me, that i poured my heart into, for what...nothing...i cant believe this, all i can do now is pray, hopefully this is a test of my faith, like Job in the bible. If any of you guys pray...please keep me in your prayers, thats all i have left right now.

Damn bro I feel sorry for you. So you have been paying insurance on your Z for the last 3 years and your not supposed to drive it? Well consider yourself lucky that you didn't get into an accident before this and someone got seriously hurt or worse and then found out you were excluded. Well at least your neighbor is cool about it and is working with you to resolve the issue with his car.

Keep your head up all is not lost just take the time to think things through before you do something rash and regret it. Good luck remember it could of been alot worse if you hit someone you didn't know and/or they got hurt.

You'll get it fixed...you own the car, insurance follows the driver in which case the driver has none, then it follows the car....if you have full coverage on the tahoe, then it will cover your Z. Policies differ by state, but worse case, call a lawyer and have them contact the insurance company....you pay all this money every month, they have to cover you or the car.

Go with CF doors, fenders and bumper instead of repainting the whole thing. Don't dwell on the losses.

Damn man, i really feel bad for you and I really hope your mom isn't responsible for your lack of insurance. Also, like others said, if ur paying money on insurance every month, they HAVE to cover you. That really upsets me because either way, some underhanded shi* is going down. I'll pray for you as well, try your best to keep your head up bro.

time to buy someones used silverstone bumper for around $150
used side skirts $100
fix and repaint the door $500
one used headlight $200
new fender and paint = not really sure.
live with the scratches on the hood for now.

all in all your car isnt "tin can" if everything is just superficial then you can get this fixed without spending out the ****. good luck man, i feel for ya.

Alright dude you are in my prayers, but I don't get the whole insurance thing. The only possible way I can see this happening is that you and your mother are under the same roof, so all the auto and home owner insurance policies are under her name, and she excluded you as a driver on the Z.

Insurance follows the driver except in a family situation(like the dad has a porche 911 and a 16 year old son) His rate would be insane if he didn't specifically exclude his son from driving the car. Insurance companies assume anyone of legal age under the roof will drive the car and price the policy accordingly, unless you specifically exclude them.)

If you are living on your own, and you own the cars and pay the insurance, there is no way she could take you off the policy, even if you are letting her drive it.

As to the Hallmark Card Post --- Absolutely Hilarious!!! Until I found out about the Insurance problems.

Sorry to hear that.. Deffinetly dont total it. Shouldnt be that much to repair. I was in a similar wreck and insurance coverd everything (vertical doors..fiberglass doorpanels.. rims.. ect) I have state farm and they will not raise your rates unless a ticket is issued. Atleast they havnt yet..

Good Luck and Happy Birthday

I have progressive. When I lived with my roommate in college, I had him excluded as a Driver (not because I cared if he drove it or not). Progressive just wanted to cover their a$$ incase he did. Either way you have to go out of your way to exclude someone on your policy. If the policy is under your name and your mother shares the policy with you I'm pretty sure you're the only one that can delegate who gets excluded and who doesn't for any paticular vehicle. Now if your mother is the primary she would have to go out of her way to exclude i.e. she would have call up your insurance company get you excluded on the vehicle. The insurance company then sends out a new policy explicitly stating this.

Considering you pay your mothers bills she may not fully grasp excluding someone from one vehicle and not another. Maybe she thinks that covering you exclusively on every vehicle would be overkill and having coverage on just one would be like coverage on all three. I will say that's going out on limb on justifying doing something like that. You only know your mother and I think you already know if she's capable of doing something like that.

good luck man.

btw: Is your mother from here or another country? reason I'm asking is my mom is from Holland and has a pretty strong accent. I understand her clear as day but I guess some not as good. Sales people have tried to take advantage her because of her accent. Luckily she has enough street smarts not to fall for it. Just something to note.

if you didn't file a police report, that's suspicious right there to your insurance company because it's usually illegal to not file one. The insurance has nothing to go on but you and your friend's word. But if they had everything written up by the police, then that's a source of validity.

I don't see the insurance coming thru in this case at all.

Some companies like Progressive are ok with big power adders and even offer up to $10k of additional premium insurance for like $60 more a month or whatever it is and they take pictures of the specific mods they're going to cover.

But with most insurance companies, if you have $20k worth of performance mods, most insurance won't cover you because you have "racing equipment" on the car. Yeah we all know it's BS, but there's a reason corvettes and porsches have higher premiums. People never think of these things and just start throwing on aftermarket parts figuring they're covered when some insurance companies are pretty much only ok with an intake and exhaust, wheels, and body panels. Anything beyond those thigns that are performance oriented and they have grounds to say the car you're driving is not the car you told them you have (as in stock).

To them the only reason to get those higher end performance parts is because you want to race somewhere or go fast in ways that are illegal or driving the car on a race track where they won't cover you anyway. And none of those thigns represent the good upstanding driving citizen they pride themselves on insuring. In fact they can even choose to not accept your renewal of your policy.

sucks about the car
