Well, like the title says.. i live in a house of multiple Z's. I should be getting my JWT kit hopefully for xmas.. maybe first of the year. Anyway.. my roomie also wants to go Fi and he is leaning towards supercharging and likes the looks of the vortech. i let him use my sn here sometimes to search and read and I think he may have pmd some people. anyway.. so we talked about it a while and since im "he of little experience" with 350z's i wanted to run down what we talked about.. make sure i didnt miss anything to help him make his decision. because if i did.. he may do what i did which was say screw it and save the extra cash and spend the extra time going with the JWT.
About him: like me its a daily driver. unlike me however power means nothing to him. he likes quick.. but once you start getting into 500hp cars for him he thinks its too much. he is all about driveability and loves super wide powerbands... he comes from muscle cars.. not fox bodies.. like old ones. he has had a myriad of big block and small block 60-70's muscle cars including an awesome 396 chevelle where he left the motor pretty much stock. so 350-400rwhp is more than enough for him. i told him to get the jwt clutch/flywheel as everyone says its perfect for street driving. Then we figured with his money.. get the vortech tuner kit, exhaust, headers, utec, spacer, cjm fuel, and maybe even some cams. figured with sharif around the corner this set up would be good for 375ish rwhp on pump with a safe tune. plenty wide powerband. reliable enough. he knows about the noise.. but like i said.. big blocks.. he doesnt mind. and he knows about replacing belts but i doubt they break that often.. so shouldnt be a big deal.
sound about right? or what did i miss...

vortech is not LOUD if you do the appropriate measures, it's noticable but my 115lb wife thinks everyone is a wuss who is annoyed by the vortech's jet sound - at least based on hearing my car. The rattles are countered by raising the idle and using more aggressive blower pulleys

Be prepared to consistently romp on him over and over, lol. The vortech isn't that loud at all, I have run them on the highway and honestly at WOT, I couldn't tell it was even boosted, other than the fact it took off like a rocket.
Sharif is awesome as well, but 375 whp will look more like 310-315 whp on his dyno, in Sharif's words, he doesn't have "egojet" numbers, he just puts out fast, safe cars!! Which is entirely accurate!!!

Vortech is the greatest. The sound is not bad, honestly if you dont like it you are a wuss. It is very tame under normal driving conditions and the power is there when you want it. Also, the power band is so linear you can even launch in first with little wheel spin.

Im not annoyed by it. Just used to the turbo by now. Me and my buddy both went FI at the same time. I got Turbonetics and he got vortech. Dynoed at the same time. His car sounded insane and I liked it but after driving it it became annoying. Plus the power is noticeably different. But everyone has different taste. Good luck!

If he wasn't going to add the headers, UTEC, CJM, etc. I would say just get the Vortech, but after the mods he plans on adding it's not worth it IMO. I'd go with the TN ST, and UTEC with no others mods and keep it at a safe 360whp. It would be cheaper and the power band would be better IMO.
