Default APS ST Turbo Replacement

I am tired of my car not working. I am tired of actuators and spings. i am tired of waiting for an external wastegate kit to be released. i just want my car to work.
How hard would it be to st!t can my aps turbo and replace it with something better? Somthing with an external wastegate? something with a little bit higher power rating? dont care what brand of turbo it is as long as it will work.

any suggestions?

you can get an external gate housing for the turbo you have and just have someone weld an external gate setup on to your current piping. Probably run you $700 or so including parts cost and shop fab work.

www.atpturbo.com can probably get you a housing. your downpipe might have to be modified as well.

you have to know what trim the turbine wheel is in order to get the proper turbine housing to fit.

gonna have to beg that off APS, or try contacting Sharif at Forged Performance, he can probably help you locate what you need.

sucks, does it take a really long time for APS to ship stuff to the US? I heard it was like 3 weeks for their full kits. Not sure what spare parts would cost.

its not gonna be easy or cheap, i called atp about their housings a while back, they run anywhere from 250-350 each, depending on which one you get. then the ext wg is gonna be anywhere from 200-350. then fab work to make it fit is gonna be a few hundred. thats anywhere from 700-900, and you STILL wont know if it will work.

give me about a week, my fab guy is making me a new dp, hes making it larger and divorcing the wg gases from the exh gas while retaining the internal wg. hopefully that will help.

its just the standard 84 trim turbine. youd need the 3" 4 bolt 84 trim external wg housing. id go with the larger A/R they have, something over 1.0.

if thats the case, seriously take it off, and get a custom kit made, will be cheaper, and probably perform better. lol. dont think i havent thought about it.

tell me exactly what your kit is doing. right now mine is going up to 10 and holding 8 at redline, in not 100% satisfied but im to the point of just getting it to work best. im afraid that if i get it to be perfect, my engine is gonna go. i dont feel too comfortable making 10-11 and holding that to redline. i feel much safer dropping a psi or 2. now 4-5 is another story.

Damn bro if my car was going that good I would be happy. Basically I am making about 10psi max then it drops to 1 to 0psi at about 5000 to 5800 rpms.
We have checked everything about 50 times. We have even taken the exhaust off and ran it so we know it is not a back pressure issue. Basically the wastegate just opens. I am running a forge actuator and a 9 to 15psi spring.
As of right now my shop is doing some street runs and dyno runs data-logging and sending the results to APS.
Honestly I am getting impatient and don’t want to wait.

damn, now i see what you mean, drops down to 0-1psi???

how do you know the wg is opening, do you have a way to see it under boost, is it up on a dyno or something? i would say to do what i did and wire it shut and see what happens. if you do that be vewy, vewy careful.

i still dont and wont trust that flex joint over the tranny, you have to bend it to install it, that has to weaken the metal and onve its gets hot, it starts to crack. the one i took off (the APS version) was the cheapest thinnest flex joint ive ever seen, i bought a new one and it was 10 times thicker, with more weave. theres no way its gonna break down.

I'm sure this has been discussed before, but who did the install? Does the installer/tuner have any idea what it could be?

you can get a tial wg for like $200......they're not that expensive.

and yes, turbine housings aren't cheap. 250-350 for a turbine housing is typical

Sam at GT Motorsports. i have complete trust and faith in Sam and GT, but as of now as far as i know it has been narrowed down to a turbo issue.
it has just got to the point that i dont care what the problem is, lets just replace the turbo and call it a day. if the turbo is to blame then i would rather replace it than fix it.

and it just stays open? is that what its doing?

if so thats what i was afraid of. i dont know if you go to the other site, but i posted on there about why APS changed the design of the downpipe, they had one that was divorced, then one that had 2 separate pipes coming off the turbo. but they decided to go with the one we have. thats why my fab guy is making me a new one, i think the wastegate gases are being overcome by the exhaust gases making it stay open too long. hopefully it will help, i should get it back in a few days.
