Default TT on a Roadster

I'm thinking about selling my 05 and getting like a 08 Roadster (next year) for TT 700whp. Is the chassis built different/strong enough? I haven't read much about FI'd roadsters.. How bad is the wind drag at high speeds?

seriously, why are you worried about the drag coefficient? are you going to track it? are you worried that it might be 0.005 seconds slower than the coupe... i think you'll need a roll bar and about another $20,000+ for a reliable 700whp Z.

I'm more worried about Gas mileage and yeah... I'm getting a rollcage. aren't roll bars for 4x4 vehicles?

We've got the Roadster, no TT yet but we take it to the track. I remember seeing that Roadster with a full roll cage at SEMA that looked real hot, it would stiffen up the chassis for sure if you're worried about that. Our chassis seems very solid at speed on the track, even instructors compliment its handling and power. Not sure if that helps you out much but hey, I do know that roll bars are for trucks and you can mount big see into the future lights on them.

Something else to consider though, isn't Nissan going to be putting a new version of the VQ in the Z's soon? With the twin throttle bodies and other changes? If so, you could be waiting awhile for a TT kit that will produce the kind of power you want. Look how long it's taken with the VQ's we have now. And really, how many Z's are truly putting down 700whp?

Canny,

I have a high 550+whp Greddy TT'd Roadster. First, if you go TT, your fuel milage will depend on how you tune the car (A/F ratio is your friend/foe). So don't worry about drag causing you a significant loss there. The Chassis is reinforced in specific locations (as would be necessary if you remove the roof). Is this weaker then a coupe, I would say potentialy so. BUT if you are going to race it you need to start considering a roll cage and that will solve that problem. You can also get an aftermarket under chassis brace if you don't want to go the full cage route.

As for your whp goals... well all I can say is you will need a LOT of patience, time and money. Also, IF you were to do this the only shop I would recommend would be Sam @ GT Motorsports outside of LA. They will build you the best engine/TT combo possible. I would say that I don't think you can hit that power level on normal gas, only C16 or above. and we all know that ain't legal in CA, not to mention an engine like what you are thinking about would need test pipes, no cats and that won't fly in CA either.

Would this be a street car or a race car? That will really be what effects your ability to hit those whp #'s.

If you have any more questions feel free to hit me up, or GT Motorsports.
Good luck with your decisions man.

My "Z" running buddy has a TT Roadster and he absolutely loves it. He never puts the top up(makes me sick... ).

He is able to talk on the phone(via headset) with no problems.....

On an amazing note....on our cruize to "Tail of the Dragon" we drove in and out of some heavy rainstorms......he did not have to stop to put the top up....cabin stayed completely dry!!!

Sam: What are you going with now instead of the Greddy Setup? I am sure you have heard of my problems, but Sharif has me up and running better then ever. I think the C118 tune should be well in the upper 600's and the pump gas tune in the mid 550's

MiniRide: That is a very complicated question. I know there was a good general tuning guide written by Zland. I think it is located in the modding section. I love my car and before TT, it was a weekend summer driver. Once I TT'd it I started driving the **** out of her. It was just tooo much fun to strech her legs a bit. I love to drive my car all the time now. BUT you have to really look at total cost.

Some will tell you that for the price of properly prepping the car for 400whp (clutch, tires, cooling bits, engine management, monitoring tools and special maintenance) you would be better off getting a Z06 or 911 or something. Keep in mind once you start down this path, you and your Nissan dealer will most like part ways. Your warrenty is completely shot and they will either refuse to do any work on the car OR will try to RAPE you for the extra cost of figuring out what the hell you have done to their perfectly designed car.
Whereas, with a stock Z06 it breaks, you take it back to the dealer, throw him the keys and tell him to call you when he fixes whatever the hell is wrong with the piece of **** car. (I mean this as no offense to Z06 owners, but a general statement for Stock cars. I did this with my Lotus after owning the car for 1 week, racing it cross country and the car was falling apart. Drove it dealer and said it was a Brand New car and was driving like crap, they needed to fix it or I would not be coming back to pick it up )

Anyway, lots of good info in the boards. I can only initialy recommend a lot of reading/research. Then start asking questions you have about specific things to narrow down what you are interested in. There are a lot of good guys on the boards that will do what they can to help you out in understanding what you want/can afford.

Good luck,

Plus Brent's (BamBam) car looks absolutely amazing....I am still in awe of the all of the hard work and patience that went into that beast....(I love the stereo for personal reasons)....The best way to put it....I used to think the roadster looked like poop....when i ordered my car in 2003 they screwed up and got me a silverstone roadster with orange seats instead of a coupe. They offered to give it to me for the same price because I waited 5 months for the wrong car......well after being in Brent's car with the top down...I regret having a coupe....I mean once you go TT you kind of make the car impractical for inclamit weather anyway...so why not get a tan while sitting at a light???
