trouble deciding between turbo kits
PE TT
The PE kits are rather rare, everyone seems to have Greddy, Turbonetics, APS.
Yeah, the turbos are smaller:
>Do you want slightly faster spool-up (less lag) w\smaller turbos? = PE
>Or do you want really big #'s (550whp+)? = Greddy
IMO the PE, Greddy, & TN all need the same things to be complete and safe:
>Quality EMS (Utec, Fcon)
>Fuel return system
>forged internals if you want 400whp +
>boost controller
>Greddy & PE kit will need a bov
What's your budget?
>Smaller = TN
>Bigger = TT kit
Quality of parts?
Much can be discussed here. Without starting a pissing war, one company has had some isolated problems with the turbo itself, there has been some problems with the maifolds in another kit...both of these problems are not wide-spread IMO. PE has a rep for poor customer support. TN has a rep for good customer support.
Side note: you can hook up water lines to the IHI turbos in the PE kit.
Reliablility?
Motors have let go on all kits. IMHO, it is the tune & lack of associated "precautions" (EMS, fuel return kit) that blows motors, not the kit itself.
I, myself chose the PE kit.
I like to be different.
I will start my build within the next couple of months and my goal is to explore the limits of the PE kit. I think it is capable of 525...maybe 550 whp. IMO if you go higher than that, you're in another ballpark that is not streetable. You'll need sleeves, more exspnive EMS, drive train reinforcements to be able to dive something that powerful...and something that powerful might not be that fun to drive around town. Thus, I decided that the PE kit is capable of taking me to my goal.
If you're interested in the PE kit, there is a new one for sale for only $6k here:PE kit in Private classifieds
(I purchased my kit from the private classifieds at my350z and paid about that price. I wouldn't spend the full $8k for a PE kit)

i figure to do it right i am looking @ 25 to 30 large, that would include suspension and everything, my wife is cool with that. and i am trying to figure out at what point does the car become so hairy that is not a friendly everyday driver. i have a friend with a daily driven 772 whp str4 and it sucks to drive everyday, he says that if he gets stuck in traffic he will pull over and wait for traffic to die out, i have an 06 xa as an everyday driver if i have to. i have a friend with a pe kit from a shop and sponsor here on the forums that he will sell me for cost, he bought it for a car that he never ended up buying, so he has no use for it, arc fmic and everything

unless you are going to change your ECU and bunch of wireing too you are still going to have to swap heads,etc.. b/c of the variable exhaust timing thats on the newer revup motors

I am in the same boat as you I think This kit is great and I know I will someday hit that 600 hp mark with it.
i would not have a problem with getting a new wiring harness, i am having the heads built that came with the motor, so that i wouldnt have to dick with the heads right now, that way i can still drive my car while the motor is being built.
dutchboy my wifes sister is married, but if things change you'll be the first to know, ha ha.

I think you've got me topped with the 3.7L kit.
I am a bit hesitant to do head-work, but we'll see what happens.
It'll be fun comparing notes with you.
Where are you in your build?
Cheers!

ps-we need to get a PE thread going...no one talks about it anymore
Dont cut those 1420s short they are great turbos.
APS=good product pray nothing breaks.
TN=great cs but i would never own a st in a z again
PE=great kit lacks eng management and i think ic is a bit small
greddy=very popular old turbo tech though but proven
jwt=with 520s similar to pe with a larger ic. upgrade to the 700s and you get a APS twin similarity with great cs
APS st=no comment

just waiting on a dyno/tune next week and all done. After that And braking in the engine block, I will move to larger 750cc injectors, better clutch, Head and cam and perhaps a better plenum.
And 600+ here I come

If you've allotted that much to spend:
Mildly build a motor and go with the JWT twin kit. Better than PE with larger turbos that can handle more power and sustain better up top.

cool i would like to do a full stand alone, i have not read up on the jwt tt, but will read up on them, right now i like the way the aps extreme kit sounds and the power it can produce as well as the kit itself. thanks to everyone who replied, will definitely keep everyone posted as i begin to build my motor, also has anyone here used dartons sleeves, or would you use aebs sleeves.
