The title of this thread should be changed to "Just wanted to show off my gauges." You know the reason people will use the pillar instead of covering the factory gauges....

For me I love more gauges. Not like 10 but just the six that people usually have when turboed... The 3 factory ones + 3 pillar pod gauges... I love my guage that tells me Speed/Avrge MPG/Rev limit...Etc. I would never cover that baby up!

You don't think oil pressure is important? LMAO. The voltmeter is important if you like having a charged battery. The multipurpose gauge is about the only one that isn't important but it has many nice features.

I don't see many cars with the gauges in the stock location and I don't think most people know what it looks like. So, yes I was showing off the look. The one gauge that you are referring to with all the info is the only one of the three "stock" gauges that is not replacable with better looking aftermarket gauges. If folks see that much value in it or if they like the pillar gauge look, that's fine, but a lot of people have not seen how clean it looks when replacing the stock ones. And it does look clean. In addition to that I think it looks ricey on the pillar...

So since it looks ricey to you then it must be ricey eh? I love both ways and I really don't see how you can call that "Ricey"???

But for you to say it looks ricey just because you don't like it may **** some people off now seeing how most F/I members use the pillar for there gauges.....

Do they make an LCD device that could display all those gauges instead of looking for spots to put em? Something that would show one or two at a time, changeable at the push of a button?

I'm not here to **** anyone off but I am entitled to my opinion and that's exactly what it is. My opinion of the two looks. To me, one looks stock, factory, and clean. And the other looks ricey like freagin fast and furious cars. Not my style and that's it. My opinion only. The intention of the post was to show some people the way it looks replacing the stock gauges, and to express my opinion about it, period. Now stop attacking me and let people enjoy the post for what it was intended to do.

I think the cipher will display many "gauge" items on a screen at one time, if I am not mistaken...I saw a display in a magazine the other day when they were evaluating lsds. I think it was cipher, anyway, it gets the readings from the CAN buss. Also I think Pioneer has a head unit feature that will display some information on the lcd screen, not sure what tho.

I will say, if gauges on the pillar are ricey, call me Uncle Ben.

Thanks for the info. I'll look them up. I would rather go the LCD way rather than placing gauges.

Zeitronix makes a LCD gauge that displays boost, egt, and a/f. I have it along with my A-pillar gauges.

Jokestrap, how's the car running? I don't see you post much in the FI forum. Badass car you've got there.

Car is running great! Looking forward to the track in '07. I am having it tuned to 560whp or so on Monday. Thanks for asking.

I was thinking about getting this http://www.nippon-seiki.co.jp/defish...ncept_top.html. It shows anything you would want to see (within reason). Pretty cool, I just haven't seen one installed to talk to the owner about how it really works.

That is a great looking setup! I also agree that putting things on the pillar makes it look like crap. I do understand wanting to keep the factory gauges too, but there has to be a better way than putting them on the pillar. When I see things on the pillar looks so amateurish.

Someone has to have a solution to that on these forums.

Here is an example shot of the cipher screen. They have a complete breakdown on AAM site.

Thanks again. If the screen refresh rate is fast enough, I'm sold.

I have a AV in on my double din. I wonder if I could install a carputer, install cipher and plug it into my stereo and view it on the touch screen. Man that would be sweet. Does anyone know if thats realistic?
