Just like I'm sure you would reply negative to a thread titled, "Why put gauges over the stock gauges? It looks horrible" I know your just going to come back and say "Well it's there opinion....Bla bla bla" But you know it would **** you off that someone is saying what you have in your car is "Ricey."
Ricey = Loud @ss muffler/Neon lights/Big wing..Etc. When did gauges become ricey... Sorry this is just a first for me.
A-pilar = ricey huh?
OP-I do like the 3 guages there, but I didnt do it for 2 important reasons. One-I like my factory guages there, especially the far left one. And 2, while the 3 guages may look clean there, you can only really glance at the one far left one while driving, the other 2 are out of the field of vision, whereas the 2 or 3 pillar guages arent. Just my opinion, flame away....

Got me mad now !!! The pillar is the best place, all else sucks, any one that does otherwise is a stark raving lunitic. OP must be on Crack. My way or the Hiway.

A touchscreen input (usually USB) for a computer.
A VGA-type input for the computer display.
To my knowledge, no major manufacturer has produced such a item. The only double din I have found that has VGA input and touchscreen input is a no-name version that might or might not be released by this time.
You probably could configure the cipher to output through a standard composite video output from the computer, and display the information, but you would have to use something else to control the computer (keyboard, mouse, etc). Or if you have a navigation input to the head unit, most of those are actually VGA-type signal, so you may be able to hack a connection through that to get a better quality signal to the screen.
But if you are doing all that (getting a cipher, a carpc), just go the few dollars more and install a VGA touchscreen in the cubbyhole. Then you would have both (HU display, cipher gauge display) at all times.
As far as I know, this information is accurate, your mileage may vary.
As for the Defi systems, they are so complicated with switch boxes and displays that it is most likely easier to find a place to put in actual gauges than the various components in that system. Example: you use the VSD, no gauges, you have to mount that display unit on the dash (looks anything but stock) and then you have a hidden box, and a "switch" box you have to put somewhere. Display is nice on the windshield, however.
Seems every way to get the information to the driver has some drawback.

I like how the gauges look on the A-pillar
I have 3 on the A-pillar (boost, EGT, fuel pressure)
two in the cubby (oil temp, A/F)
and one on the dash in the corner to the left of the steering wheel (coolant temp)
I also have my SAFCII above my mirror which has a few options of things it can display, none of which are super useful though - like throttle position or MAF voltage

Why a separate coolant temp gauge? Isn't there a factory one already in the dash that measures some kind of temp? Just curious...
OEM coolant temp is worthless, you'll see what I mean once you get an aftermarket coolant temp gauge - the OEM one is almost like an on off gauge. The needle on the OEM one will look fine, just a little below halfway and not move at all while the aftermarket one will go from 140-200 degrees yet the OEM one seems to think 140-200 degrees isn't worth moving for
EGT = exhaust gas temp
EGT = exhaust gas temp

yeah the stock coolant gauge is completely worthless. I'm actually pretty irritated nissan put such a crappy *** gauge in the car. I guess it's intended for people who don't know what temp it should run at. Because basically that gauge will either read low, normal, or high.
If it reads high, then the coolant is 260 degrees or above which is kinda too late for spotting a problem early on. If it reads low, then it's below 140 degrees. When it's in the middle rock solid under normal opperating conditions, it's somewhere between 140-200

You mentioned it before pillar guages look ricey. But if its rice doesnt it meen it orginated in the Asian land. Well last I checked the Hot Rod an Muscle Cars have been doing this for decades. Hell even before honda had a 50cc scooter and you meet the nicest people on them
Preferably I like the pillar guages because of teh retention of the multifunction guage the volt meter. The water temp one can easily be replaced.
I dont know if you are FI or not but once you start it is great to have as many readings as possible to let you know the state of health of your engine at any given time. Once you start your car becomes more of a percision machine that you NEED to keep an eye on.

Right now I have a 2 pod A-pillar, 2 black faced greddy gages one boost one exhaust temp. Planning on getting 3 more to fill the center.
I don't think having the 2 gauges right in front of your face is ricey I think its convenient.
