Default Which TURBO kit is best-suited for my needs?

Guys, i'm new to this whole FI thing, unless you consider nitrous as forced induction.......
for my z, i'd like to get a basic bolt on turbo kit. i don't need anything too spectacular, and i don't plan on going too crazy with boost. i won't have enough money to do all of the things listed in the "How to do Twins right the first time!!!" thread. what kit would be the best for me, considering i don't plan on "upgrading" my stock internals.
what are your experiences with various kits? single turbo? or twin turbo?
what are the bare minimum requirements for using a turbo kit? would i need anything like headers? or exhaust? or TP?

thanks

ekim81, I would look at the JWT Twin turbo or the Greddy Twin turbo, I have heard great things about both kits. Also since your in Atlanta I would PM/Call Sharif at Forged Performance, he sells both of these kits and know alot about both. Hope that helps.

JWT or APS. Both come with everything you'd ever need. They're also both pretty expensive. JWT has monster midrange and instant spool and american based support, APS has excellent spool and nice quality. I wouldn't know which one to choose if i had the choice. (I'd probably do JWT, cause its american based)

both are fairly safe to run on stock internals? i don't have the money to do all the upgrades to the engine yet.... and like i said, i don't plan on going too crazy with it either... i'm just going for the turbo since everyone says that all the minor bolt on mods don't really net any big gains.... i've just got a nismo intake and nismo exhaust.... i don't want to waste money on all the minor stuff if going turbo is the best route.... thanks for input so far...

the best idea would go talk to sharif though. you are lucky to have him in your backyard, the rest of us ship or drive hours to bring our cars to him.

The good thing about the JWT kit is you can always upgrade to the BB700 Turbos when you what the extra power.

have any of you guys read his original post??? he doesn't have the coin to do twins (right), he does not plan on upgrading internals..why are you guys still recommending the the most expensive FI setup..the twin turbo set up

for his needs he would be better suited with a single turbo setup from aps or TN or a vortech S/C
both come out good out the box, about 1500$ at least..chepaer than any TT kit, and about 1000$ cheaper if having it professionally installed than Twins.
...shees...bandwagon hoppers lol

That plus the gauges, tunning...and hopefully not the clutch(depending on the mileage)
Then getting the right exhaust, testpipes....
NO fuel return needed for his goals.

If this are his considerations then this is better suited for him... and plus if he does ever upgrade his internals it will be in more than a year from the sound of things and by then there shoudl be upgrade option on teh single turbo setup..but doesnt sound like he will seek that.
Based on his needs and goals twins are not what he needs.

so the TT's are not safe on stock internals? i guess we'll put it this way... i'm willing to spend around $6-7000 for the whole setup. since i use this car as an everyday driver, i need something fairly reliable (as reliable as a turbo car gets, i guess).
i would love to do everything the right way, but just can't afford to at this point...
I will try to stop by the shop this weekend and talk with sharif...... everyone seems to have only the best things to say about him.......

While I am obviously a big advocate of the Turbonetics kit I suggest you talk to a shop and see what works best for you...

7k will buy you a TT kit w/ accesories. you'd likley be better off w/ a vortech or APS or TN ST kit. The vortech of those three would probably be the safest (and slowest)

Another thing to keep in mind is that you must plan for the future. If you go with a single turbo/super charger setup, there is a high likelihood that at some point in the future you will want more power.

You may be the exception, however it might not be a bad idea to go with a TT at low boost settings as it will give you room to grow in the future.

As others have said, talk to shops in the area and get their thoughts as well. Since you have Sharif in your backyard, use him. Forged is one of the top shops for the VQ platform in the U.S.

obviously you didn't read what he wrote.. he said he didn't have money to do twins right the first time as the post suggested.. meaning he doesn't have the money for a built motor and twins

maybe everyone is giving him options.. and not just FI Kits they own...

thats your opinion... some people like to do it right the first time..

ST's blow as many engines as TT's.. matter of fact all the posts lately about motors being blown were TN ST Kit.. so what the hell are you talking about..

ST's are no safer than TT's... and you can't make the argument ST's run less power than TT's.. because Tauran has an ST kit and he is running more HP than i am.. its all about how much boost you want to run and the tune behind it.

thats your ignorant and biased opinion...

....

To the Original Poster.. don't listen to this kid.. he has no idea what the hell he is talking about... if you want a ST Kit.. get an ST kit.. if you want a TT Kit.. get a TT Kit.. its about what you want and what you can afford.

I have a Greddy TT Kit with stock exhaust.. no other mods... is running great.. but the advantage i have over an ST kit is i can later on run more power without having to swap out for a non existent Stage 2 Kit. Twins give you more potential in the long run. Never think that X amount of power is what you need.. because you get use to power fast.. and you end up wanting more. Lots of people have been selling their ST and SC kits lately to go Twins.. and many had said if they had known prior.. they would have gone twins to begin with.

You want a TT Kit.. don't let this guy discourage you.. get a TT Kit.. with a UTEC and run low boost..

matter of fact... i am not going to say another word.. after you talk to Sharif he will tell you the same thing
