Alberto, did you buy the 3.3 FD at function tuned or somewhere else? With 355 whp would a 3.3 FD be a bad idea? I'd much rather go through the traps at the drag strip in 4th gear rather than having to go into 5th, but with the lower hp, it might hurt me in quarter mile times.

i would just get better tires though

I swapped out the rear differential early last year, one of the best mods I have done!!! At 600whp, there is no power loss whatsoever, but a ability to stick some of the power to the ground...
Godd write up, interesting info on the mathematical top speeds of each gear, tempted to go top out 6th 200+mph here I come (j/k- not on these streets)
I can still slip the tires in 4th if they aren;t warm

Many guys will be willing to trade rear diffs, if someone has less power, they will gladly give you their 3.3 for your 3.5 (and vica versa)..
anyway, if anyone needs rear diffs and can't find a trade..talk to Jim at turbotoys in FL...he has plenty of these in stock!

bigslim350Z, if anything you would want to stick with the 3.5 final drive or possibly switch to the 3.9 final drive. The 3.9 makes an assload of difference with a centrifugal SC, especially one like yours that isn't making really huge power at the moment. You'll have 10.7% more gear torque going to the wheels in each gear and 10.7% higher in rpms at a given speed (except for right after a shift point) which means you'll be higher in boost at the same speed for most cases
when cars start getting a ton of power with a turbo setup, the 3.3 is usually a better choice, especially if traction is being lost in lower gears. Because turbos can build full boost so low, running 5.1% longer gearing means being 5.1% lower in rpms at the same speed and that's just not as much of an issue when you already have full boost
