Default radiator overflow can on Greddy kit........

does anyone know if you can put the overflow can "anywhere" or does it need to be at the same height as the top of the radiator?

I put mine down low... mounted to the front bumper aluminum bumper support. It looks better than having it in the engine compartment.

Does anyone think I will have a problem with it in this low location. will it overflow?

you can barely see it in this pic. It is behind the passenger side intercooler; you can only see the cap and the tube running into it.

thanks!

Speed Force uses some sort of blasting media to give them that nice finish.

I believe they are Spearco cores with custom end tanks.....and they are all aluminum!

You can mount it lower if you desire. Mine is mounted in a similar location, and the cooling system has plenty of vaccum or pressure to fill the can, or draw it down...depending on conditions.

Thank you sharif. My only concern is that the overflow tank has a breather hole in the cap.....if the radiator fills the overflow tank, it'll flow out the little hole.

BTW, what is the overflow tank for? I always thought they were for a "catch all" in case of a boil over.

That is correct, which would probably be the case regardless of where it is mounted.
What we did on my car, since we road race and abuse it quite frequently, is we used the OEM resevoir (twice as large as Greddy), and mounted it as show in this pic. If it overflows, I've got much bigger problems on my hands.

The greddy radiator overflow tank is a little on the small side.

The overflow tank's purpose is to accomodate expansion and contraction of the coolant. As it heats up, it expands. When it gets very very hot, my car will almost fill the can from its natural level of about 1" filled. As the coolant cools back down, it sucks the fluid back up. This is why its important that your overflow hose goes all the way to the bottom of the tank, so that it does not suck AIR into the system when this happens.

Sharif is correct, and you can mount it lower then the radiator cap. I have mine mounted next to my driver's side greddy intercooler end-tank in the bumper. I can just barely reach in thru the top to take the cap on and off, and I can use a slim funnel should I ever need to.

You can use overflow tank monitering to help detemine if your headgaskets are failing. Sometimes it will get super obvious if you just plain BLAST coolant into the overflow tank and it ends up all over the place.

Once the coolant system is 100% bleed, I would recommend keeping the cold level at about 1" in the tank, at least that is what has worked for me.
