Default Generally, what does complete installation cost for a built motor?

Assuming you're installing a turbo kit at the same time, what would be reasonable to pay for installation of a custom built motor?

Thanks,
Ravi Mohan

Around 800-1200 for labor and parts to put the motor back in the car. Maybe another 800-1600 for installing the turbo along the way depending on the kit.

SGP quoted me like $9,664 for purchasing and installing a JWT(including FMIC)....and the kit was around $6,100.

DAMN! I need to get into the motor install business!!! I pulled my own motor, tossed on the Greddy kit, and put it back in with little to no help. It's pretty straight forward to do and minimal amounts of tools required. If anyone in my area (soon to be Seattle) ever wanted this done, i'd do it for beer and BBQ.

The cost will depend on the level of assembly of the block you are installing, whether it is a short block or long block will make a big difference in labor and parts.

I think SGP would tune the car for that price, which is also expensive, an additional 400-600 bucks, plus the little things needed for install and use like guages and stuff.

there is a lot of work going into taking out a motor, swapping ALL the stuff off the other motor and then putting it back in. then the same goes for a turbo kit.

you are looking at 1200-1500 on swapping the motor, plus about the same on installing a turbo kit at the same time. then your tune will cost you from 500-750 dollars.

it will take one person about a day to pull the motor and swap the stuff, then about a day or little more to put the motor and turbo kit back in, a day getting everything working right and a day to tune the car if there are no issues...

SGP charges 90 per hour.. They stand by their work, so you can walk away with piece of mind...... Also, If you can swap the engine yourself/install turbo more power to ya.. But whos gonna tune it anyways?

Yes, don't get me wrong, they do have strength of mind in their work....but just letting someone know that at least $10,000 was required for the JWT twin turbo setup (including installation).

That's about what most good shops charge for twins including installation and tune.

A question like this is so difficult to answer, becuase something like "swapping an engine" can involve dozens of operations. Like Westpak and Audible mentioned, are we talking about a complete engine breakdown and resseamble and reinstallation with FI kit? Something like that, is much more involved than swapping a complete long block and install the turbo kit.

Like most businesses...you get what you pay for, and hopefully a little more than you paid for.

I am sorry for such a vague question...Pretty much if someone has a built motor that already has all new internals etc...what would it cost to install that assuming they are also installing a turbo kit on the car..

Im trying to think if labor would be less doing both at the same time. I think thats what I'm trying to ask.

Sorry...

i am almost certain labor would be cheaper to install the turbo while the motor is out...

in any event.. when you guys build your motors do your normally (or automatically) go after the whole long block or just a new built short block? I'm wondering if a short block is sufficient enough for a pretty high end turbo build since that where im usually seeing the issues with blown motors

i did my tt install my self on my friends lift. the manifolds were the biggest b!tch. i got it tuned at AMS, cuz they did great work on my evo, and work wonders on any car they touch. never been happier. mind this is on a stock block, no internals yet.

i think if your going 2 do the work yourself (such as a built motor) buy a used block and go from there that way if u mess up or arent sure wut 2 do next u at least have the first motor 2 work with. ive seen used blocks sell 4 around $450.

Well a typical TT install including basic tuning is 2000-3000 dollars. Most shops pull the motor anyway. So I'd bet on spending about 6-800 dollars more for swapping all of your accessories and whatnot onto your new built motor on top of everything else.
