Default the forgotten CJM Intake Manifold, revisited

Some of you have seen a few pics here and there of it, some of you havent been around long enough to know that we were ever playing with the idea of making one. We used to be secretive about it when we were all about it, but its been so long now that I dont really care, and I hope brandon doesnt haha.

Our entire plan was to design an intake manifold for the future of the 350z, literally. Something that wasn't even needed yet, but down the road would be there to support the big players looking to make BIG power found HIGH in the RPM band. So we had a target runner length, and we wanted the runners as straight as possible, and we wanted a large single plenum. To take FULL advantage, may require a raise hood line or lowered engine mounts.

Ill let the pic speak for themselves.

First we made a prototype just to play around with.

Then we made some changes to the shape and a few specs.

Ultimately we wanted to grab more base area for greater plenum displacement.

Then we fabricated a lid with stock throttlebody placement so that we could play with the entire thing whenever we wanted.

We tested it on a NA car only, and found pretty much what we expected. A loss of 5-10hp up until redline where it quickly matched stock power and then.... well who knows, that car had a stock rev limiter. This thing is theoritically tuned to make power up to 9000rpm. So what it will really do, we have no idea. We didnt really design it for NA cars, but we felt safer first testing it on a non-boosted car. Our prototype plenum top was flexign a little, and needs some more work before being put under pressure.

What are we going to do with it? I have no idea, for now... probably nothing. We could have this sucker cast on a moments notice and have an affordable intake manifold for you guys, but someone has to prove it works before we are willing to dump the money into the casting molds. For now, we will gladly do CNC machined copies... but its a pretty penny and your going to have to fabricate your own top unless you want to work with the one we started.

Here were the final pics, but ultimately the sky is the limit with the plenum top, we could put the throttle(s) wherever we want and make the plenum as large as we want.

Extremely interesting. My first thoughts while looking at the design was about turbulence inside the plenum. What do you think about leveling the lower plenum off with the metal base much higher, near the opening of the runners?

Looks like a lot just to "play around with" . Send it over and we will test it on our GT47-88 Z!!!

Nice!! I remember seeing a few pics of it a long time ago. I always wondered how it ended up.

Thumbs up

Nice looking plenum!!

What you said about the power being moved to 9000k makes alot of sense. The shorter runners, the further up the power band will be moved.

I bet Audiblemayhem might be able to see some nice numbers with your plenum on his new setup.

One question. Was this tested on a revup engine or a 287hp engine?

Nice work

Later

I always wondered what became of this. I'm really impressed. I have to say, I'm tempted enough to order one. I plan on NA, but I've a different idea for the upper manifold that would work well with what you have created. Care to throw out how much "a pretty penny" would be for a CNC model?

Very interested to see how it works with an F/I car. Test it out and post the results!

Charles, what material did you use to make the prototype. I'm in the process
of designing a blower manifold for a kenne bell setup.

So I have to ask.....why not just try it out on your own car? I thought you had it up and running?
