Default More info on the APS External Wastegate *PIC INCLUDED*

As you guys know, GRD got the EW setup from APS for my single turbo. Since I was the first person with it, they were pretty excited to get this installed. But as soon as they saw it, they knew it would not work... why? Basically, when this was designed by APS.... it was made for the STOCK EXHAUST! For those of you who have an APS exhaust, but want the external wastegate, it's NOT going to work. I find no logical explanation why they would design a product with no compatibility with their OWN product.

Visual Aid:

GRD has a few of these in stock, so you may want to call them for any questions. I havent seen it installed on a car, but it should be a perfect fit with the stock exhaust.

Now, if you do have the APS exhuast, and REALLY want this... then you can either ditch your APS exhaust or have your muffler shop make some modifications. Tuan @ GRD isn't having anymore boost issues with my car so I'm not planning on putting this on my car. Hope this helps...

I'd bet that they just overlooked it. Would swapping flanges take care of it?

That Turbo flange makes me want to cry! I really dislike the internal wastegate ported turbos. Its a designer's nightmare, but external wastegates properly mounted on the manifold have HUGE power gains over this setup.

So I take it you've gone with the Forge actuator to control boost fluctuation? Also, is your current sig your final numbers with the CJ fuel sys and built motor?

Nope, not my final numbers. This was my second tune that was done last week. Tuan stopped tuning @ 13 PSI, he started getting some misfiring around 5 grand, so the Z is in the shop right now, & they are currently trying to resolve that. The good news is that the forge actuator and UTEC are holding boost just fine. My goal is to reach 500whp... so I'll let Tuan decide how much boost he needs to run to meet my goal.

The only way to make this work with the APS exhaust is to literally cut out the flange on the exhaust, and tig weld a 2 bolt flange. Totally doable if someone really needs the EW.

Even without the ew, I think you'll hit your mark. The GT3582R is a STOUT turbo. Can't wait to see what comes of this...

Actually the part does not include the wastegate, just the piping.

And APS does use TIAL in their APS Extreme kit.

^ No cams, but for 500whp.. probably like 15 psi maybe... Boost isn't an issue at all anymore. Some weird misfiring, so once that is resolved... then we're ready to play.

unless they get more aggressive with the tune, it will take at least 16psi to hit 500rwhp. but if the turbo starts to fall out of efficiency it will take more. i dont know anything about that turbo
