I'd really love to know if the AEM is a full standalone or not. I'm looking at doing a S14 w/ a vq35 and I'm trying to get a good idea of the EMS options. Stock ECU with piggy back looks like it's going to suck to get the stock ECU to work in the car with needing the CAN and DBW and all that. Looks like I'd need to get a NAS and BCM which probably will be a couple grand alone new for that stuff.

Just disable the variable cam timing in the swap. You only lose low end hp and tq. or look into a greddy vmanage it can control the intake cams.

aem ems is an awesome setup... i run it in my race talon that pushes around 600 whp.. daily drivebility is awesome, and the capabilties to tune are neverending... we are able to tune with e85 gas, which is roughly 105-106 octane, just need to increase flow by about 30%. This is all capable with the ems. there are traction control setups, antilag setups and so much more!

I integrated an AEM on my 350Z using all of the stock sensor with a Greddy TT kit and 1000cc injectors. It works flawlessly. However I haven't had any personal experience with the SP Racing AEM PNP kit for the 350Z.

It is a full standalone but what you are proposing is a lot of work. Johnny from Turbonetics did a VQ swap in his S14 using the AEM EMS and it was a very complex (expensive) wiring harness. I'll scan the artcile from Modified Mag and post it tonight. It was on the cover of this month's mag...

Who did the work for you? Can you tell us about your set-up? Im interested in doing an AEM down the line...

I did the install and modified the AEM myself to work on my 350Z. It still uses all of the factory sensors with an additional MAP sensor. Tuning is just like tuning any other AEM. I'm pretty happy with it

Pauter rods with Arias pistons, the rest is pretty stock(heads, cams, clutch etc.) On 93 octane it does 520's rwhp uncorrected at 15psi or so. It will do more but the clutch is on it's last leg, if I try to do a pull at 17psi the clutch just doesn't hold. I won't be able to make the meet on Sunday, I'm going with a customer to Atco this weekend instead. Have fun at the meet.

I think the issue maybe that this box was designed for a honda, and this is not communicating well with my nissan ECU? not really sure yet..

Hey guys,

Just talked for a bit with Andy's tuner, and it seems there are some cold start issues. The car has left for some other stuff and will be back shortly so we can get it sorted out.
We've run this on 03-05 z's without issues, however Andy's is an 06 so we may just have to tweak a tad. We will keep everyone posted on this.

Andy, just left you a vm, call me whenever you get time bud.

Chris
