i guess their heads are too large for the port?
i really want accurate readings of the oil this time around... a spun rod bearing is something i don't wnat to go through, again.

thanks, jtabraham. looks like i'll have to be on the safe side and have monthly oil changes.
sean1967, what do you mean by direct oil reading gauge? oil pressure gauge?

whenever i add oil, i check the dipstick periodically between quarts... but i see the non-etched side of the stick creeping upwards, while the etched side, NOTHING! what ze 'fawk! well my car is at the shop and the problem was a spun rod bearing at cylinder #6. prior to such an incident i was only 1 quart shy, according to the non-etched side... sadly, that wasn't the case.

if you were talking to me...I haven't used one in over ten years. I can't help there. however, any serious race instrument maker should have them. just be advised that they can leak inside your car if the line comes off

yes, but it used a direct pressure hose (a thin one) rather than a transmitter. It is more trustworthy.
Quit changing your oil every 1000 miles so you can see it on the stick. I dont have a problem cuz Im patient and read from the opposite side of the markings, But if I did, where it was aggravating me to death, Id maybe rough it up with some emory cloth and file a couple notchs at full and a qt low. I mite even clean it well with some solvent after and paint the tip with some black caliper paint, If it comes off in time, It wont hurt a thing.
Also---notch it and Bead Blast it.
Or be patient

bumping an old thread but the damn dipstick is freakin pissing me off. I cannot read oil on it for $hit. I've checked after not driving the car for about 2 days or so and I cannot detect any oil on the stick, maybe a tad bit on the tip, but that's it! I don't see why not driving the car for a few days would impact my reading. I've also checked it after driving, and then letting it sit for an hour...but that doesn't seem to work either as the engine is still hot and oil is all over the stick. Last oil change was 1k ago, so I seriously doubt I have lost that much oil. When I drive, oil pressure/temp is fine, and have yet to get the oil light. Also, NO oil leaks. Thinking of draining my oil just to get to the bottom of this. I do have the APS oil pan as well...

Try leaving the dipstick out of the car for 15-30 minutes at the same time it cools down. I think the trick is to let the oil that gets dragged through the tunnel for the dipstick settle back into the oil pan. Seems to have worked for me in the past.
Brian-I talked to Irshad yesterday and am going to drop the car off on Sat and come back in a few hours. I literally want their techs to take at it with me in a few hours...Perhaps I'm a dumbass, but I would like confirmation.
I don't know why something so simple can be soo difficult to read. My other two cars are a peice of cake.

This is a great suggestion. I'll try this.
