Default Transmission completely DIED in 3rd

after i got my car back, a few days later the o2 sensor stopped reading

then at low RPM's (2500 and below) either on cruise control or keeping at the same speed.. the car started to shake badly w/noise coming from the tranny

then at 3rd gear around 4-5 rpm, heard a big "thunk" noise and i took it into neutral

had to push so hard to put it into 4th.. then engagement was back to normal

started grinding in 3rd badly

-now, 3rd gear does not work at all. as if its in neutral, even when parked in 3rd without pressing the clutch.. its completely out..

alberto out there? does this sound similar to yours?

Synchro likely gone. Time for a used or new tranny. PM Gooey on the forums and have him find you one he is in MD and owns 2 salvage yards. Ideally you wanna find version 009 and also buy the shifter bracket. Good luck.

I'll let you know. I'm getting new syncros and shift forks installed in my current transmission along with my motor build.

G35 and 350Z trans are identical...like Bert said...find a CD009 if at all possible.

Based on what I saw when we tore apart my trans a couple months ago to do a build up. It looks like people are breaking the engagement gear section of third gear off of the main gear. It's not one piece like we originally thought. It's actually laser welded on. A custom gear that is all one piece would most likely solve this problem once and for all without incurring the huge cost of a complete gearset. If I have issues with my built up trans this summer, I'll likely look into going that route.

I've got the same problem with the 3rd gear.

The engagement gear section of the 3rd gear broke off from the main 3rd gear section.

Like BriGuyMax said, they seam to be laser welded.
It would be better if this would be one piece

The engagement gear is actually brazed, briguymax mistyped.

Separated engagement gear was my initial thought when I read the thread too, then I realized it's like 5 months old, but yeah. I'm sure that's what happened.
