Default Function:TUNED – 563.7 DynoDynamics (REAL) RWHP - STOCK MOTOR!

563.7 DynoDynamics (REAL) RWHP

STOCK MOTOR!

Function:TUNED will be releasing our 12 month Unlimited Mile BOOSTED STOCK MOTOR WARRANTY based on the extensive testing and tuning we have performed. Please stay “TUNED” for the thread to be posted.

Over the past two months I have been testing the limits of the Stock VQ block, with the intention of finding its true limits. Here is a little synopsis:

The Videos

http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=ooT3sMHlDf8

http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=BHGtxlOKGTk

  • After 150+ Dyno Runs!
  • 18.9PSI on 116 Octane

“Mid” Boost

  • 9PSI on 93 Octane

“Wastegate” Boost
  • 364.5 DynoDynamics (real) RWHP on 93 Octane
  • 6PSI on 93 Octane

The CAR

Special thanks goes to Nowell who allowed us to abuse his motor to the max! Without him this testing for the Z/G community would not have happened. We are obviously replacing his motor at NO COST to him (a few days of down time though ).

2003 350Z STOCK BLOCK
  • Greddy Twin Turbo Kit with Intercooler
  • Function:TUNED Stage .5 Fuel System (Stock Rails)
  • RC Engineering 650CC Injectors
  • Walboro 255 Fuel Pump
  • TurboXS UTEC
  • TurboXS Boost Control Solinoid
  • 3” Downpipes
  • APS 3” Exhuast
  • ACT Street Disk HD Pressure Plate Clutch
  • 3.3 Final Drive
Previously a Turbonetics Kit was installed on this motor making approximately 360 RWHP (DynoJet) and run for about 1000 miles. Also this motor has survived a previous 125 shot of Nitrous with 10 tracks days under its belt. Many people can also attest to the fact that Nowell is not “Easy” on his car.

I tuned this car over the period of about 10 days slowly increasing the boost from 6psi all the way to 18psi. This was done so that at each boost level I could find the true characteristics of the stock motor. A V6 motor is much much more sensitive to timing then other motors because of the geometry of the V and the length of the rods. Let me put it another way. The stock rods are not weak they are small. This means that the edge of making great power is very close to the edge of generating excessive forces on the rods. These excessive forces are what snaps the rod. The motor does not even have to knock to snap the rods. In-fact because of these factors mentioned above the VQ motor will snap a stock rod before it knocks. The fact that I was running this motor at 12:1 to 13:1 at 18psi is additional information that supports this claim.

Nowell and I drove the car a few times between tuning levels and found the car to ridiculously quick at 12 – 14 PSI. The motor finally failed at 18psi after a small roll on race with a C6 Vette. Tuning wise I failed to take into account how much colder it was outside (compared to the air temps in the shop) and how much airflow would be moving over the intercooler. Dyno air temps were in the 82 deg. F range. On the street air temps were in the 50 to 60 deg. F range. That coupled with the additional airflow over the intercoolers made the intake air extremely dense and I did not compensate properly for that because of my underestimate. If I had compensated properly I believe this motor would have held much longer.

12 month unlimited mile warranty on twin'd stock block...this has got to be a joke. If not, i am so saving money for this.

Can't wait for the small print to come out.

It looks like if you are running 9psi on 93 octane he will warranty your motor for 12 months, unlimited milage. Basically if you blow your motor and you are running 9psi on 93 octane...they will replace it. (they made 420ish on 9 psi...which is plenty of power for my daily driver)

I hope this is correct, please don't quote me b/c i am just saying what i understand...not what they are actually doing.

Just so I have this correct, plus a few questions............. You guys only warranty it up to 9psi, and anything over that, the Owner of the Car is responsible? You pushed the cars Stock limit to 19psi til it went Ka-Boom in that race against the C6 vette? At what point during your testing did you all experience HeadLift?

If this power is achieveable on the stock block then how come GTM's car let go at 15psi? They were using an Fcon and their tuning is top notch.
