I am going fab up a new WG setup for my TN kit to dump to atmosphere. I was looking into the Tial 38mm, 40mm, or 44mm.

The price on there three different sizes ranges significantly. So I dont want to screw up.

What size should I go with?

I was thinking of the 38mm because of the ease of installation and it is 3mm bigger than the TN should be able to handle my 3" straight through Single Exhaust.

What is everyone else running.

 

44mm.

I don't think you'll even notice a difference really with the 38mm.

I'm going with one of a similar size or larger.

 

Actually a Tial 38mm is only 2mm bigger as the Evolution is a 36mm gate. At any rate you might also consider a 50mm gate






1000HP worth of flow ability. I think Craig is going to use the new Racegate which I believe is either a 42mm or 44mm gate.

 

tial 44mm good to 800+whp...probably even 1000whp...over that and u shoudl go 60mm

Based on this its going to be a Tial 44mm Vband with flanges, My best price on it is $371.61 shipped.

I saw the new racegate its 42mm I believe.

If you are just sticking with the TN kit, then the Tial 38mm will suffice. A friend of mine switched out theirs for a 38MM Tial and it fixed the overboost problem w/o even doing their fix. The Tial is a superior design therefore will be more than enough.

 

a 38mm will be a direct swap, we had an overboost issue with one of the first gen TN kits and instead of installing the overboost pipe we just swapped the wastegates, at the time we only had a Tial 35mm and Darren (INTENSEPOWER)s car hasn't overboosted since..

 

go with a 44 mil WG.... we have done it many times with lots of success

 

Thats alot of extra work for no real point, the 38mm is good for 600-650whp no probs. Hell i've personally seen a 35mm wastegate go to 560whp / 600 tq on an 8 psi spring, controlled by a turbonetics manual bc, holding set psi flawlessly

Go with the 38mm it'll take you 5 minutes to fab up a dump tube, and you dont have to modify your up pipe

 

I was under the impression that there was a lot more involved in sizing than whp numbers, such as a larger wastegate being more responsive than a smaller one at lower boost levels.

 

Sure big wastegate for low boost, small wastegate for high boost, yada yada yada. You've got to realize that it's all pressure, and it doesent matter where you put the wastegate, as long as it's not a 180 from the flow, but it can be anywhere you want it, and if it's easier for the exhaust to flow out of the wastegate then flowing through the rest of the piping then thats where your exhaust is going to go.

I'm just recommending what i've learned throughout my own testing, and experimentation with tial wastegates, and from what i've learned from the tons of applications i've applied them to. In my opinion you're wasting your money going for a 44mm wastegate. Especially for the given application, pipe sizing, turbo size, psi etc. I mean you are not exactly slowing down an 88mm turbo, it's a mid frame turbo

I have not seen your setup for the turbosmart, personally I have had lots of success with Tial Products on my boosted cars. I would prefer to buy new and fab it up myself But thanks for the offer.
