Smile Blown motor!!

we are please to say that we found the limits of the stock rod bearing/rods tonight at the track...

its many many 11.0's , sixty foots were 1.57-1.63 and a hell of a trap of 124 all on the stock motor. we knew that pushing the limits tonight like were and just pushing and pushing it would finally let go. we were running 15 plus pounds on the TN ST kit. we kept leaning it out to get the car to go faster and faster so we could hit some 10 second runs. we got as close as .03 (three thousands of a second) from hitting our goal when the motor decided to let a rod bearing go. must be nice to have a short block sitting there waiting along with many other stock blocks to throw in if we wanted to

videos, time slips and lots of trash talking will be posted tomorrow!!!

hehehe, what a fun night !!!!

wanted to thank ALL the people who made it out, what a turnout!! and of course congrats to AJ for some very skilled driving leading the progression of the community...

thats awesome, sounds like a great time. Now lets see what you can get the kit to do with a built motor.

hahaha :P quite possibly the only (or one of very few) "blown motor" threads with a smiley face next to it.

What a crazy day. I took a sweet video of AJ destroying a 800hp supra from a dig where he ran his best 11 flat.

AJ truly drove that car like a champ today, litterally down the ground, now we can only look to the future.

The sad thing is, they didn't have to blow the motor
It ran 11.1 on his first run and was pretty consistent throughout the night.

However, leaning it out will take its toll eventually.

I believe this motor would've held for a few more track days with the original tune it showed up with last night.

This was the only turbo setup I couldn't beat last night...By a long shot.
Lucky for me I've got a Turbonetics kit sitting in the garage

Performance Factory is helping me with project "boost w/ juice!"
On a short block of course!

oh honestly, we could have just left it at the 11.1 status with the tune we brought it with and i really think it would have ran forever. i set it up "safely" but definitely pushing the ragged edge.

the 124 trap was with the original tune followed by a couple 122s with better 60s right after. after he ran the 11.1 i thought about it for a second and realized i tuned the car in 5th gear and with my 28 inch slicks on there, he was staying in the top of fourth. i then said i could lean it out a bit cause it would never run as lean as it did in 5th gear.

once i leaned it out, he went 11.08, he was like F it man, i want to hit tens, i then leaned it out 3 on fuel map on the utec and advanced the timing .3 degrees. the car went 11.03 and he said do it again. he launched the next run and the car popped out of 1st gear. (wtf?) on the next run, he launched it really hard and had a good run going but the car just lost in in third gear.

thats the difference in making it or blowing your motor, less than a half of degree of timing and probably a total of .5 A/F ratio with a setup like this.

worse part about it is that we wanted to blow it up either here or on the dyno but wanted to have some really cool way of doing it, maybe with flames and lots of oil. spinning a rod bearing and probably bending a rod wasnt much fun at all, way to go AJ for the most boring blown motor

at least the block is still good

Nice job Jeremy and AJ on your work!

Hey AJ..........just think if you had pulled the A/C and lightened it up more, you'd probably have gone 10s. Congrats on the driving!!!!!
