Were you having heat issues before the new Rad?

As long as you can control when the fans turn on and off, either manually or automatically by temperature, they can only help. If they're running when your fluid is too cold, it'll just make it harder to get up to operating temps.

I think the reason some people don't see improvements with the thicker core Koyo is you have the same issue of diminishing returns with increasing core size as you would with an intercooler. As the air passes over the first portion of the core, it gets heated up from the heat transfer, so the air passing over the last half of the core is always hotter than the air passing over the first half. Hotter air doesn't pull as much heat out, so its not nearly as affective. Doubling core thickness doesn't equal doubling your effectiveness, vs doubling front area of the exchanger.

You gain more by increasing the capacity of your coolant, than by going to a thicker core. An auxilliary radiator that increases your frontal area would be most effective. But you quickly start to run out of space for something like that with everything else.

What about a 1/2 mix of watter wetter and distilled water? Also, a CCV valve on the throttle body and isothermal gaskets on the intake manifold.

Brake ducts? You could also go for tranny/diff coolers.

Do you have a functionally vented hood?

You could tear out your AC.

You've probably thought of all this. Just throwing some ideas out.

not at all. I raised up in temp a little once when I was pushing it hard through some twisties, but it quickly went down.

What temp are most people seeing while driving around?

I'm out of ideas. You seems to have done most of the cooling mods. I've got the diff cover ordered, just waiting for it to arrive. I'll let you know how that goes.

do what Im going to do and re-work the piping so that it goes over the pulleys and down where the coolant res. is. Then you can fit a larger Radiator

Here's a quickie P-shop of the 1981 Datsun 280ZX Turbo OEM NACA hood scoop and vent on my 350Z; I'd love to see someone try this. If I ever go F/I, I might attempt it myself, just to be different.

I have a set of those 280zx ducts on my shed, I've had the idea of using them but haven't made up my mind yet. Even though I have a 240 not a 350

As for fan controllers I would go with the DIF dual fan controller, I have one and it's simple to use, and the overide switch comes in handy while waiting in line during an auto-x or road race.

I'm surprised no one has even mentioned doing some ducting for the radiator. I know the 350Z has stock upper and lower ducting but no side ducting sealing up the radiator. Ducting works!

I've considered that. I'm not sure if I want to redo all that piping. Maybe eventually I will.

John,

It was nice to see you and work on the car again after almost two years coming this September. She looks great, better than ever.

Cooling - Track Temps will trest everything to the limit...

As mentioned this weekend we are at Calspeedway with Ferraris and Lambos with Symbolic and Destination X TV, and for the following two weekends after that at Big Wllow (Speedventures.net and Superstreet Time Attack). If you or anyone else has the Need For Speed outside of just playing Forza2, hit the websites or stop by and you can really find out what cooling parts work or not.

Agree with many...

In the future - Cooling Mods:
1. Vented Seibon hood.
2. Heat Treated Manifolds, main pipe after Intercooler and downpipes.
3. Thermal wrapping piping.
4. Larger Powersteering pump.
5. Amsoil BMK filters like Eagles car
6. Changing all plastic ts and fitting to brass.
7. Oil Cooler.

That is a start. Fan controller looks interesting.

Let me know if we can assist you in the future. Hope to see you at the track so give me a call.

Warmly

M

Koyo Radiator
Nismo Thermostat
Samco hoses (blue)

25% coolant/ 75% water with a bottle of hyper lube super coolant.
-I will be running this mixture for a month and tracking temps during a drive to Phoenix. Then I will switch out to Evans and compare the results.
Next month an Oil Cooler will be installed and possibly the Nismo Finned Rear Diff Cover (as advertised by WestCovina Nissan)
What else would you guys recommend as far as cooling mods go?
Thanks,
John
(BTW, I deleted the other thread like this because it got out of hand)

For my car aside the new radiator and GTM fan kit the coolant bypass is a must have. After getting these mods I haven't had any over heating issues.

I would like to know this too. Anybody have some average temps for daily driving or even while at the track?

Mishimoto makes a similar version to the fan and shroud kit GTM sells for less than 1/2 the price. Check it out.
See link here:
http://www.mishimoto.com/mishimoto-n...shroud-03.html

This should definitely help bringing temps down.

The fitment on the Mishi stuff is pretty crappy. Made In China ftl...

But for what GTM charges, I'd rather spend a little time ensuring proper fitment than wasting money for a name.
I'm assuming you /\ /\ /\ have experience with this piece or other Mishimoto parts?
Regardless, the fan shroud is still a helpful cooling mod. Whether you buy the Mishmoto or make one yourself. depends on how handy you are. Its just an aluminum shroud with 2 fans screwed to it.
