Default Vortech Intercooler bracket is poorly designed

The heavy intercooler only comes with one bracket for the passenger's side. Of the two holes on the side that mounts to the support beam, only the top hole lines up with a hole to thread in a bolt. The bottom hole doesn't have threads, so I think I'll have to find a bolt/nut combo that fits, and just sandwich the bottom hole on the bracket.

The driver's side doesn't even have holes to mount another bracket. I'm considering possibly drilling a hole and threading it, then fabbing a custom bracket.

What are you guys doing right now? Did you just install it the way it came?

Yup, noticed the same thing when I installed mine. The intercooler isn't very heavy, so the brackets it rest on do the job fine. You can of course weld the bottom brackets for better stability, but I have never had a problem with the way it was setup.

they are the same color as the one that goes on the side...

I saw them in the instructions, but I bought the kit used and they're not in there. Are they metal or plastic? Also, in the instructions, those two brackets are only used to hold the intercooler in place while you line it up and tighten the single bracket on top. Instructions say to remove them after you're done.

The brackets (as long as all the parts are there and installed correctly) are more than fine to hold the IC.

Sorry, I thought you had them. There are two metal rectangular brackets the hold the intercooler from the bottom. It just bolted down on one side and the other side is left free for the intercooler to rest on.

I have over 30k miles with only the side bracket. No problems to date. I took the lower two brackets off after 2k because they were rubbing grooves in the bottom of the ic.

the pipes and silicone hose give enough support to the ic along with the side bracket, no need for another bracket

I thought about ordering up those 2 lower brackets, and just leaving them on like some of you did, instead of removing them as the instructions advise. Can you show us a pic of the grooves that got rubbed in? Or explain them in more detail? Thanks.

They were just scratching the crap out of the bottom of the i/c, so I removed them. I'll try to get pics.
