curious to see how many of you guys on here regret making the jump to FI. if you do, why? was it because the actual financial bottom line was more that you expected, or did your break you motor and have to go through a lot of trouble to fix that, or do you now think the 350Z is not the car you want to modify?

You only live once and not knowing how long you've got here, do what you gotta do and don't look back. Just enjoy it while you can, if you can, for as long as you can.

Nice to see someone your age asking not just doing and regreting. If you think you can handle the $$$$ part be sure you also can $$$$ to put a new motor in otherwise hell yes I love the power

Only regret is the way I went about things the first time. Found out the hard way that there's a ton of homework and learning to do when going FI on these platforms (more than you would think...). For what it's worth, I'm working through my second round with FI on the same car. NA, 250whp-ish is fun and all, but it doesn't even compare to driving a boosted VQ at 400, 500, or more.

It isn't human to regret boost. Of course there are more mature things to do with the money...but hell your 20 you can get away bein immature a few more years.

+10000000000

I couldnt have said it better myself. I am 22 and I have had my Z for a year now. That is the exact reason I bought my Z. Live and enjoy life because it doesnt last forever. Yes, there are a lot of things that I could have better spent my money on, like a house. Just make sure you dont spend everything on your car, and keep a little savings on the side. I will being going FI as soon as I save a little more.

I am 32 and just had a JWT TT installed. I spent alot of money and could have spent it on more practical and financially sound avenues, however I don't regret it one bit. As for insurance you can get insurance to cover your mods. I was quoted ~$1000/year for an additional $25,000. It might be wise to have additional coverage. Someone can chime in here, but I think once insurance pays your loss it is just that, a loss, you can't go pulling parts as your car now belongs to the insurance company.

Depends on how you have it set up and what company you use I suppose. I add additional coverage for whatever amount of money through a stated policy. Some people will take their chances and just 'keep the receipts' to show the insurance company if needed. In a previous car I was victim to a hit and run, and my insurance company replaced the damaged aftermarket wheel/tire without question or any additional coverage.

I would check with your insurance company, because I can't imagine a worse feeling than having your car stolen/totaled only to find out that your insurance wasn't going to pay out for the turbo kit, built motor, etc that was in it.

I personally have no regrets about boosting my cars. The main reason I can imagine someone regretting it is if they were careless: being under-financed or careless about their setup (going for 600hp stock block with no money to build the motor when it blows)

No regrets. Boosted after 2 months of owning it.
Oh, and I'm an irresponsible 23 year old Accountant, so I really couldn't care less of other more sound investments. My happiness and fun are priceless

Ran on the stock block for just over 2 years before it blew. Never regretted it other than for a moment when I looked at my bank account last night.

When I think about how much money I have spent on my car (mostly FI) I feel pretty disgusted, but the second I get in and drive it that feeling goes away. So no I don't regret it at all.

I hear ya man. I'm 24 and still haven't gone FI. But all throughout college I planned on boosting once I graduated and got a job. Well, 2 years after graduating I finally got my Z, but bought a house instead of going FI. It's by far the best move I could have made at this time in my life. Yeah, that 8 grand I saved up could have done wonders for my car (well, just your basic turbo install), but having to live in an apartment because of it would have made me regret it.

Everyone on these forums say to wait until you know you can afford it. It's really hard to hear that, because I don't want to wait until a 7 year old boosted Z isn't that cool anymore. But they aren't saying that just to frustrate you - they really don't want to see people screw themselves over (or maybe they just don't want any more people complaining about how their motor blew and they don't have money).

I got a bonus recently, but decided to get exhaust and rims with it instead of saving for FI. I want the whole package - now I just have to start saving for the FI, which will take a long time.

After lurking on these forums for a while I've realized that the people on here either have money coming out of their ***, or they are willing to go into debt for FI (i guess there are a few people in between). Right now I can't run with "the big dogs", and it's not worth it to try to do so. Who knows, maybe if I decided to go FI instead of getting the house and the rims I would seen the light of FI Heaven through the clouds and it would have been completely clear to me why I went to great lengths to get that turbo - you never know.

Also, +1 to that. No matter how responsible you think you should be with your money, always think about how you will look back on your life when you're about the kick the bucket. You might regret not having enough money for retirement, but you might regret having a lot of money and being too old to do anything fun with it.

I NEVER regretted going FI. I believe I had it installed when I was 24. Even after I was forced to take my turbo system off from some stupid ticket, I miss it so much that it is going back on.

That is how much I LOVE my Z with a turbo.

If you can afford the initial costs of the goods and the labor, just treat the car right (read: conservatively. Using boost on occasion or even sparingly) and you will be golden.
