Default UR pulleys & Turbo ?

I ran a search on this and i think i found that it is ok to have the UR pulleys w/ a turbo set up. I just want to know if what i found in my search was correct? My buddy got me the UR pulleys for my B-day and i got them put on, but come next Christmas i am going F/I. I want to make sure this set up should be ok and if ok will i notice higher hp#'s like the UR peopele claim? (higher hp w/ UR pulleys on turbo motors)

thanks for any imput.

E

p.s. please don't flame me as i ran a search and i just want confirmation on this topic, thanks

I wouldn't run one. I am currently going through my motor and had to replace the crank due to 3 stress cracks. Machine shop said they had seen it many times before where the crank pulleys cause this. Said I was lucky it didn't take out my oil pump

On the other hand, I have UR pulleys on my JWT TT G35, and no problems at all.

Anecdotal evidence does not a case make.

why bother taking a chance, turn the boost up 1/4 psi to make up for any benefits if at all.

Don't bother.

What, are these about a 2-5hp gain on a stock motor? Don't even worry about it on an FI'd Z or you may be looking at issues down the road like Zivman is having...

When going FI, don't even consider it... Not worth the potential pain in the a$$ IMO. Minimal gain or not.

Nope, have you?

Even if you have, no way to prove that it was the UR pulley.

I owe\ned a Z32TT, and went 180k miles on it, the majority of those at higher boost, and with an UR pulley. Still ran great.

Could have been a fluke, or conversely, your engine crank falures could be a fluke. Or, could have been totally unrelated.

Either way, I've budgeted for a new, built engine shold this VQ35 fail.

I've heaard that the pulleys decrease the load on the turo and make it spool slower

Yes I have, and the crank mag'd bad. You could see two stress cracks in the first cylinder and one in the second of the crank.... meaning you could tell it was working from the front back.

I didn't think it was from a crank pulley, but my machine shop was very sure it was from that. Said they had seen it numerous times before. Said in severe cases it can take out the oil pump and then there are real issues to deal with.

having X amount of miles on a car with a crank pulley means absolutely nothing. Heck, I would have joined in bashing what I am posting now just a yr ago based on the experience I had with crank pulleys.

Facts are that all these moving parts are creating vibrations and harmonics. Those vibrations need to go somewhere. The stock pulley has a rubber harmonic damper (don't mistake that for a harmonic balancer). It absorbs a lot of those vibrations. Without it, those vibrations are going through the crank and such. Add all the additional stress that FI puts on a motor and those vibrations are multiplied.

I am definitely not saying those running those running the UR crank pulley will ever see an issue with it. What I am saying is that I ripped into my motor for other issues and found signs that the UR crank pulley was causing damage to my crank. You make up your mind if the added 1.5-3 whp is worth the risk.....
