Default Test Pipes Installed, Now Funny sound coming from front of car?!?!?

So I just had a set of topspeed resonated test pipes installed and everything seems to be ok but when I get on the gas in like second gear at low rpms there is a funny sound coming from the front of the car. The best way i can think of to describe it is like the sound a big glass jar would make if you rolled it accross a counter. Does anyone have any clue what could've caused this? It only happens under load and when i'm on the gas heavily

ask the people who installed it, doesnt sound like any of the typical noises you might get, definately something to have them look into.

definately doesnt sound like a typical noise though, if im understanding correctly.
pop your hood and get a flashlight, take a good look to see if anything is loose or looks like somethings been rubbing against it, maybe try and get your car off the ground a bit and take a look under there.

Could you just be mistaking it for the rasp that comes along with test pipes? Thats about the RPM that you hear it at.

+1, or detonation, if the test pipes caused you to lean out.

Uh... before assuming your car is detonating I would check to see if they are contacting the metal heat shields that surround the stock cat location. Depending on the size of the resonators, they might actually be contacting the resonator when the car vibrates or the engine shifts. This happened with my HFC's before I put the turbo kit in.

You can fix this with a mallet, a breaker bar, and some sack.

Test pipes do result in strange noises. After installing test pipes, my exhaust chirps like a bird when I back off the throttle. Nothing is broken. Nothing is wrong. Its just the way that it is.

Just 2 weeks ago my test pipes (after like 15k miles) just started making a sound like a bunch of washers rattling around in it at certain RPMs... seems like the insides **** themselves. That or it's just vibrating into some metal...

I think I figured out what it is.... It looks like, from the top looking down, that the test pipe on the passengers side my be really close to the intake charge pipe and when i romp on it i guess it vibrates a bit. We'll see for sure on monday. But I got my confidence back enough to drive the car. In 4th gear I hit full boost at about 3750 rpms now so It seems that it may have helped a little bit but not as much as i had hoped. Funny enough it didn't really throw off the A/F that much (maybe a tenth of a point leaner) but it did disrupt the steady idle A/F that i had. now it fluctuates pretty heavily between like 15.3 and 13.9

cube i started hearing what i think was the same noise you're talking about with my hfc's about 1 week ago. Whenb i took it to get the TP's put on it turns out the gasket had went and i had a slight exhaust leak so i think that is what was making that noise for me.

so what RPM do you used to hit full boost? You already had a HFC so a test pipe will not be much of a difference compared to stock CAT. I'm happy if I boost 300RPM earlier if I switch from Stock CAT to Test Pipe.. 500RPM even better

Did you get the resonated TP?

I used to hit at about 3900-4000

I was hoping for 500 rpm better from the hfc's to test pipes but no dice. I guess its heat wrap from here. I have a topspeed y pipe in the mail. anyone have any theories on how that will do?

Thats basically the setup I will have daniel. Except I am hoping that my aftermarket b-pipe(pipe after the y-pipe) connects to the sts. I wont be getting the sts installed for another week or two tho .

Anyone have any idea if I should keep my aam spacer and crank pulley or just go back to stock on those parts?

the spacer you should keep but I've heard bad things about the crank pulleys in general and even worse with this kit. Apparently it reduces the load put on the turbo and you lose spool time

Well great! haha I just got it installed like 2 or 3 months ago oh well but I am interested to see if the bigger size piping will help with power/spool time

Thanks, I'll get some new gaskets and re-install 'em. You may have just saved me $200
