Um yes you need that. If that solenoid is not connected the car won't start. Trust me on this one. Working on a buddies car who wouldn't start we checked everything and started going through fuses. Found the fuse for this solenoid was popped. Replaced it and the car started.

Mine started but just threw a CEL yesterday when I moved the car to the other side of the garage. The entire assembly with hoses and all was off, just like he has in the pic. I wonder if something else necessary to starting the car was on that same fuse that your buddy popped?

sorry man, we take those off all of our cars. it WILL start for sure without it.
i have 6 cars for proof, that fuse must have worked something else as well..
I guess the fuse was tied to something else. Although I must admit the Evap solenoid on my buddies car looked a bit different than that one. Either way I wouldn't leave it off.
