July 2003 Turbo Magazine Greddy Z Twin Turbo Specs
The July 2003 Turbo and High-Tech Performance mag has quite a few articles on the 350Z and especially the Greddy Twin Turbo setup running 5.6psi.
The most telling differences to the Autoweek article are:
1. Pricing to be below $6,000.00 NOT including the intercooler (optional which lists at around $2k) and the PRofec e-01 boost controller (list $680.00)
2. 334.2hp at the wheels with 339.2 lb-ft of torque
3. The TD-05H 18G turbines may be replaced with smaller turbos (apparently the 18G's are a bit oversized requiring intake restrictors to keep boost down).
The kit includes:
1. TD-05H 18G turbos (2) - which may be changed to smaller units.
2. Type-S external wastegates (2)
3. Airinx filter assemblies (2)
4. Cast stainless steel turbo manifolds (2)
5. Required piping and hardware
6. Larger main injectors (currently 440cc RC Engineering injectors)
7. Pre-Programmed E-Manage piggyback computer.
So the kit doesn't include the intercooler and the PRofec e-01 boost controller both of which are part of the Greddy showcar/tester.
So let's say you want the exact setup Greddy has. Let's break it down for an idea with List prices.
1. Turbo kit: $5,500 estimated.
2. 23row Intercooler: $1,900 estimated
3. PRofec e-01 boost controller: $680.00
4. Installation: $2000.00
Street price for parts is usually around 10-15% off list price...let's say 15% off list. The total comes down to this:
1. Complete parts package: $6,868.00
2. Installation: $2,000.00
Grand Total: $8,868.00 not including tax (for us Californians tax would be just for parts and that would be an additional $566.61)
Kind of a far cry for the estimated $3700 plus a couple of g's for install.

That is a very bad news, the kit doesn't include the boost controller nor the intercooler?
$2000 for install?? isn't that a little too high?
And, why is the power figure lower than the original numbers? different dyno? hot day?

That does sound kinda high for the install. At my tuner shop it generally takes about two days (16 hours) to install, test, dyno, and tune a FI setup. They charge $60 an hour, which would total $960 and that's assuming the instructions are in English.
Ok..So are those hp numbers without the intercooler? Maybe that explains the 11hp difference from before. They probably don't want to sell the kit with a boost controller so we all dont go blowing up engines by playing around with it.
$2000 sounds very right for an install of this sort.
Considering half the engine will have to be pulled... Eeek.
As for the intercooler... I'd recommend running that regardless of boost, I plan on running either a water or CO2 injection kit in front of the FMIC as added insurance.

Well, that price does sound about right. Of course, that means the kit will be well into my future, instead of sometime soon. Oh well, guess I can get used to stock for a while, and really feel the difference when I can finally afford the kit.
Anyone else give any thought to warranty issues??? I know it is gone with this mod, but I might wait til the 3 year thing is over at least, don't know yet. Also, I will be interested in NISMO, even though I know it will probably cost even more, lol.

Concerning the hp numbers differing...Autoweek alludes to Greddy telling them what the figures came out to.
The Turbo mag article specifically refers to Greddy running the car at Dynamic Autosports' Dynojet.
The 12.9 second 1/4 mile apparently comes from Motor Trend magazine's evaluation.
I FORGOT TO MENTION...THE DYNO RUNS WERE DONE WITH THE GREDDY EVOLUTION EXHAUST INSTALLED. But remember, the exhaust isn't included either. Expect the street price of the dual canister exhaust to approach $900-1000.00.
This issue of Turbo magazine has quite a few articles...they dyno test the Blitz SUS Power Intake (+5.7hp +3.1 lb-ft on dyno). They also dyno'd the Hyper Ground wires on the Z (with the Blitz SUS intake installed...an additional 3.8 peak hp, +2.8 lb-ft were gained ON TOP of the Blitz intake gains). They also dyno'd the Invidia exhaust (+8.2hp peak +5.1 lb-ft).

On another note I would reccomend theintercooler as well, and turbo kit without one is 1/2 *** in my opinion, and its good to have for added safety.

Definitely not worth the $ or effort, buy a supercharger.
I've had two turbo cars, and plenty of NA cars, I'm ready to try supercharging. However, I hope I can squeeze enough HP outta one to satisfy me.

Interesting news. A few points FYI.
1. If Greddy is having problems with boost creep it would seem like a better idea to use bigger wastegates...maybe type C instead of type-S. Adding intake restrictors is just wrong and goes against the idea of tuning. If they were to change the turbos they would have to go back through a bunch of R & D/tuning.
2. Personally, I don't need the ultra-expensive 3-row intercooler. Hopefully they will sell the piping needed for the intercooler but without the intercooler with it. Then I'll just find a decent Spearco intercooler for around $500. Or maybe I'll get one of these for around $900
.
3. You can find a profec B for around $250 or so. Or you can make your own boost manual controller for around $5.

I had a DSM too. That was a great community!
