Default The local shop...

Hey i'm not really new to the forums, i do more lurking than posting but my main question is I've been looking into a Vortech supercharger and have been trying to read everything i can about it. I know that it is supposedly the most reliable FI out there but my local shop is trying to convince me that the Single Turbo kits are the better buy because 7psi is 7psi whether it comes from a supercharger or a turbo. and in that 7psi i will be having more power and more torque. I'm trying to avoid blowing the engine seeing as i am only 20 and cant really afford to replace it. I also know that by putting FI on the car that it isnt going to last forever. so my main question is, is he right about 7psi being 7 psi whether it comes from the vortech or a single turbo?

the aim of the game of FI is tuning. Tuning is the key when u stay below 380-400whp.

that said, 7psi on a vortech which makes fullboost near redline, is alot different then the power delivery of a turbo. Someone people think that the SC is alot easier on the engine, because the mid-range torque a turbo procudes is thought to put the most pressure on stock rods.

In short. Same psi, same peak power, but the rest of the powerband is vastly different.

The only thing I could think of is you might get boost spikes with the turbo, that you shouldn't with the SC.

I would run away from a shop...that tells you that 7psi is 7psi, regardless of SC, T, TT..etc. They have no idea what they are talking about.

You can have a trouble fee setup, with an SC, a single T, or a TT. It's all in the parts selection, tuning, and setup.

A SC will build a linear power band, *PEAKING* at 7psi at or near redline. The Turbo will hit 7 psi when fully spooled regardless of RPM the car is at.So you may see 7 psi at 4000 RPM's on a turbo kit, where you would see 7psi at 6000rpms on a SC. THe turbo is definitely more of a harsh power curve for the motor, but a more one curve at the same time.

All depends on the plenum air temperature [gain] whether 7psi is acts like 5 or 8.5 psi
