What they told you or what they put in legal written form to modify the disclaimers in policy..............gee most insurance companies state only they can modify policies not their agents..................fine print.
from what I've found, companies might be willing to cover modifications until they find out they're performance modifications. A lot of times companies want a premium that isn't even remotely worth it like double the cost of insurance for only $10k worth of coverage

I need to renew my home owner's insurance policy. I had originally purchased through AAA several years ago, but I am going to check with Statefarm to see I can get any discounts since I have 4 car insurance policies with them already. I'll probably go this weekend. I am going to ask them to give me something in writing that they will cover my mods without additional covered as long as I could provide receipts.
I'll let everyone know what they say.

Good question James...
State Farm told me they will cover parts damaged, but only up to the listed value for the car. So if the car is totaled you don't get any more for all the parts in there. On the other hand, if you damage the intercooler in a front-end fender-bender and it costs $3k to fix, they'll fix it minus your deductible, just like it came from the factory with an IC. They won't guarantee the part used will be the exact same part though. For specific aftermarket parts (like rims) they will provide up to $2500 coverage standard. Anything more (where you specify the replacement part or for custom repair work) will cost a lot more.
All in all, pretty damn confusing exactly what would be covered in any particular scenario.

anyone have experience with drive insurance from progressive? did you guys have to declare these aftermarket mods or do they just coer them? It seems to me like if you have a turbo kit that adds 100+ horsepower to your car they would want to (justifiably) raise your premium
