Default Ok, Vortech Fuel Pump Question.

Ok, about a month ago I had a instance where my fuel pump would keep running after I shut the car off... It stopped after a couple of days (I kept disconnecting the battery to shut it off when I made stops)...

I just washed my car and as I was drying it.... whirrrrrrrrrrrrrrr..... I was like WTF????...... It is the fuel pump again, it just started all by itself with the keys out of the ignition and car parked.

I heard that it can have something to do with the SS Box... Anyone know how I can eleviate this condition? What do I need to do to correct this?

I do have a Utec waiting to go in, but that is a couple of weeks away yet.

Thanks for any insight you may have.

The S.S. box controls the turn on - off..You might be getting moisture causing a short inside the box..If it is moisture it should go away when it dries..Open the hood and battery cover and hold a hair dryer to it for a while..Can't hurt..

that could be actually since I just washed the car...

I'll take the SS box out and check it out, heck I'll wrap it in a plastic freezer bag as well while I am at it.

That may make the problem worse since it could actually trap the moisture inside the box and even cause corrosion/rust. Have you looked to see if it is actualy wet?

There are some plastic pieces on the windshield that channel the water away and to the ground . When they install the SS box and run the wires thru the fire wall . These plastic pieces have to be removed and alot of times dont seal back up and channel water any more . I get water on the passenger floor when i wash it or its left out in the rain .

Yeah Booger... that happened to me at 1st as well where I got water on my passanger floor... I took that cowl off and wrapped that area w/ Duct tape (wire harnesses) and that stopped the water from entering the car. I tried the hair dryer... LOL... The wife was looking at me like WTF... I held the air on there for about 30 mins but it did not solve it... I thought taking it out for a spin might rectify it but after 50 miles or so I pulled back into my garage and...... Whirrrrrrrrrrrrrr..... It was still hummin along like the frickn energizer bunny...

I have the battery disconnected for the night... maybe an ECU reset will help.

If not then getting rid of that SS box and installing the Utec should do the trick I hope...

Well, once I install the Walbro and the 650 inj's... There is no need for the Vortech pump any longer, is there?

A re-tune may be a necessity. Are you gonna drill the walbro to get the fuel press down to around 52psi? Tune should be after this..

Yeah... I definately have to get a tune when I install the 650's.... I also have no choice but to tune the Utec when I install it.

I am not sure about drilling the walbro... I'll have to find that thread and read up on it.

no, no.... I am looking forward to it, really

It is just a PITA when you are at the in between stages trying to get around to do it.

and this is something I am most likely going to have to have installed... I like the DIY thing but when it comes to the electronics in the car. I definately dont want to "F" that up.

So that = more $$ to spend, and that part does not excite me all that much
