utec
theres a little grey round switch with a v notch in it and when you turn it you can see different numbers, i think 0-9 or 1-9 not to sure well if you turn this in circles to different numbers what is it doing. this is on the outside of the utec on the bottom i think, thanks
lol, read the manual yet? its the map selector. go read the manual to see what all you can do with that ****, how it interfaces with the remote map selector and how it controls your maps.
uh oh, so if i turned it to a different number and dont know where it was to begin with thennnnn........ i guess i need to hook it up to my laptop and find the map that i just had tuned??
yep.
if you had good tuner, he would place the map in all the slots. Id suggest you do that if the tuner didnt. Its just a precautionary method.
so you read the manual on how to connect to the utec (which isnt hard, but its not a 2 step deal) but you missed the part about map selection?

oh no, i bought the car already done, had turbos and utec, but i just recently had it tuned at GTM because the utec was tuned for 93 and here i only have 91. but i know it's not loaded in all the different locations because when i turned the *** the car started shaking and almost wanting to stall so i turned it until it stopped shaking.( which is on positions 1,2,3 but all the rest make the car shake)
leave the swtich alone! Once you connect to the utec, you can see every map. go to the turboxs site and download the manual and read it. The interface isnt complex, but its not straight forward.
First thing i would do, is to save a copy of every map to your computer!

yeah i read the manual, but my stupid windows vista laptop doesnt have hyper terminal and it also has a female connection for the serial cable just like the utec so i need a double male to make it work. man i wish GTM would have told me there were different maps on here and maybe give me a cd with them on there, for 600 dollars i dont think it would have been that much of a pain. oh well live and learn

that's the volume ****.
just kidding. on the TXS webiste, part of the download ARE THE USB DRIVERS.
since GTM did the tuning for you, you should probably contact them and have them walk you through setting up and interfacing the utec through a direct usb cable. I don't know how there customer service is, but hopefully they have someone on staff to help you. you can figure it out yourself from the manual, but it can be troublesome for some users.

have you downloaded hyperterminal to your vista computer yet? that is the 1st thing you'll need.
then, you should power up your computer, turn on the car, but you don't need to start it. connect your computer to the utec via a usb cable. use the usb port on your laptop, and the usb port on the utec. windows will try to install the utec; it'll ask you for drivers. use the supllied drivers that I said to download from TXS.
once all that is done with...you can proceed to setup a hyperterminal connection. since you'll be using the usb port on your comp, it'll give some sort of virtual com port. make sure the laptop and utec are connected to eachother when trying to figure out what com port you will be using. for all other connection settings, you should do what the TXS manual says to do.

Kevin,
Just got a hold of Sam, your map is on the number 2 slot. If you do decide to change the settings on the UTec (which I wouldn't recommend) read the manual a couple of times to familiarize yourself with the unit then proceed from there.
If you have any questions you can give us a call on Monday.

thanks george, i would like to see what map is on the other settings, i put it on 3 and the car feels great, not pulling timing and running strong. i'll probably switch it back to 2 until i can figure out whats on 3. it just doesnt seem to pull hard enough on 2. it doesnt have that little extra kick in the pants

What was saving you before is how the UTEC was setup, that for every time the car knocked the UTEC would pull 16 degrees of timing. That is the reason you were feeling what you were feeling even on 93 octane.
So we did correct the knock setting for 91, and tuned the with the proper timing tables for 91 octane fuel. You switching maps right now on 91 gas is asking for trouble.
I just got here to the shop to finish up some work, I will be giving you a call to make sure we are on the same page.

OMG, you can't go changing maps on the UTEC without knowing what you're doing! Yikes.
Listen to Sam and George and leave it on the right map (2). You can get the kick in your pants AFTER you build the motor. Better than a hole in your block

I had mentioned this to you before, you car was tuned very aggresively even for 93 octane. Your old map was running 20 degrees of timing on the top end, for a stock engine this is a ticking bomb.
