Default Anyone FI using Amsoil?

I am looking into purchasing some Amsoil and I am wondering what weight oil you FI guys are using. I currently use 10w40 full synthetic RP which I have recently heard is mediocre. It seems as far as 10w40 Amsoil only offers "Synthetic Premium Protection" which seems is not full synthetic but a blend? Correct me if im wrong. Also they have 10w40 motorcycle oil

Just wanted to get some input.

P.S: My car is @ the shop (drift office in WA) double checking my TT install and fixing my exhaust mani leak (motor getting pulled). Just incase anyone was wondering

Thanks in advance,
Aaron

I would recommend Mobil 1 0-40w, or if you must use Amsoil use the 2000 series or better.

right now i'm using the series 2000 0w30 but I'm also stock block and running low boost so some may say that's a little thin for built and high boost. I was considering trying the european car formula 5w40. http://www.amsoil.com/storefront/Sea...x?CategoryID=8

Whats wrong with Amsoil? I use it, based on the many good reports I have read about it.

Yea I was considering the european 5w40, how do I know what is 2000 series and better? The reason I want amsoil is I get a pretty good price on it, ~5 bucks a quart.

the reason I was going to switch to the european 5w40 is because that is what amsoil recommends for factory turbo cars. The 2000 series is actually a product line, different from the european I believe.

Oh I see now, the series 2000 only comes in 20w50 and 0w30... I would think 20w50 is too heavy and 0w30 is too light for my application? (Stock block 8Ib boost)

I run the 10w40 amsoil. it is plenty good stuff. Far beyond the mobil 1 that was recommended.

You can run the series 2000 oil, but honestly I don't think the weights are quite optimal for our application. Also, the standard 10w40 is cheaper.

I would recommend the 10w30 or the 10w40

you can buy it in the qt or the gallon. It is ever so slightly cheaper in the gallon, but I find buying in qts more convenient.

I would run the 10w40 over the 10w30 based on the high temp shear rating.
From the research I did, a rating over 4 is optimal.

For your reference, the HTHS ratings
10w30 - 3.4
5w40 - 3.7
10w40 - 4.3

Mobil 1 0-40 weight is very good in FI engines.

I don't want to start an oil debate but the Amsoil I tested ( not 2000 series ) the results were not as good as the Mobil 1 0-40. I was in the process of testing the Amsoil 2000 series and that is when my engine blew on the track (550rwhp, 14psi+, stock block) So I did not get a chance to send that oil out for analysis.

If anyone is using the Amsoil 2000 series oil and would like to send a sample to black stone labs to get it tested I would be happy to pay for half of the costs ($20 to get is tested so I can contribute $10 to the cause )

Hope this helps the OP on why I choose and recommend Mobil 1,

Thanks George - published results on the Mobil 1 support your recommendation.

Some people's statements are often quite opinionated without any basis in fact. But hey everyone's entitled I suppose.

just curious the weight of the amsoil you tested?? I see some test results on their 5w30 on these boards. All the amsoil weights we have discussed here have better wear properties than the 5w30.

In all honesty, I think oils are very over rated. Even the cheapo dyno oil is plenty good as long as you maintain proper levels and keep it clean with regular filter intervals.

George: I'm running the amsoil tso series 2000 0w30 on my z. I'd have to check and see how many miles I've put on it, I don't drive the car very much. It is greddy tt running low boost. Hard to want to do an oil test though as I don't want to drain the oil, was planning on just changing the oil when I pull the engine to build it in a couple months.
