Default Building Motor for Boost..Proper Break In?

Well since my motor felt like giving out i will be rebuilding my motor. Heres a quick list of whats going into my short block

JE 8.5:1 Compression Pistons
Eagle Rods
ARP Rod Bolts
ARP L19 Headstuds
HKS Head Gasket

As you can see i elected to go with an open deck setup rather than to go with a sleeved motor because of the fact that i want more of a track car rather than just a straight quarter mile car. Once I get my supporting fuel mods in order I hope to go for 600whp on race gas.

So to the main questions about properly breaking in a motor. One of the theories as to why my motor gave out is that the cylinders were washed out due to exessive fuel pressure. So what should i do before going ahead and breaking in the new motor? My tuner says that i should try to get the motor running and get the fuel issue sorted out before dropping the motor. but then again we dont even know if the block is salvageable yet. so anyone got some ideas as to how i should go about breaking in the new motor in regards to the fuel issue? and some proper techniques for the first 2k miles?

What happened to the old one? Your tuner gave you wise advise to get the fuel issue sorted out before starting a new motor in it. The first moments in a new motors life are important, and are not when you want to be sorting out excessive fueling problems.

the way i was running the fuel return was without having the fpr connected to a vaccum source. so it was pretty much running at a set fuel pressure. i think we set if overly high. if i leave it that way and just run oem fuel pressure should i be fine? my car ran fine without the fuel return system. i just didnt know what the oem fuel pressure was at the time. if anyone could chime in on what it is? you think you could shoot me a pm on the price of L19s?

thanks

constant fuel pressure is not a bad thing if you have the injectors to provide enough fuel at that pressure.

i think that once the oil gets to temp, the motor is broken in.

the clutch takes a little longer to do...

Walbro 255
Injectors

anything else? trying to plan my build.
short term goal wise. this winter im going to be shooting just for 500whp then when in the summer go for the 600whp. im pretty sure im gonna try out the haltech to do it. i also have another frend interested in it. so hopefully we can get a good deal this comming summer ;-)

Ring seat within the first few miles is critical IMHO... Two ways to do this from what I understand - drive it hard on the street or put it on a load based dyno. Start it, let it warm up, then do 20-60% throttle (3 runs), 20-80% throttle (3 runs), 20-WOT (3 runs).

FWIW - I've yet to see a shop talk about their engine break in techniques. I've actually asked on these forums, but haven't ever gotten an answer out of anyone...

Talk to your engine builder and see what they recommend. If something goes south and they determine it was something related to the engine break in, then at least you can say it was their fault J/K

Good luck

+1....there are lots of opininos on engine break-in. Speak to the person that built it, and ask for their recommendation.
