Default HKS Evc 6 Broken? Need some advice.

Hey guys, yet again another problem with my car :0) hopefully nothing major... its really bothering me and I want to get under the car and check it out but I have no time..

Anyways this is the situation:

Today I noticed my car overboosted to 11.7psi..my target is 8psi.. (owch... stock block)...

First question, does or does the HKS EVC 6 control overboost, ie. mine is set to target 8psi, if it overboosts will it automatically start opening the wastegates? Or is it not that smart? If its supposed to... mine isnt.

Anyways, after this happened I decided I should reset the whole boost controller and do the configuration again, so i restart it, set it to PSI and S for swingarm (internal wastegate). Then I do a 4th gear pull to determine what my spring will hold.. but instead of the usual 7 pounds it kept rising all the way up to 10 and I wasnt even WOT...somethings wrong.. even in 6th gear it hit almost 10psi @ only 3.5k..

This could mean that a hose popped off my wastegates, but could it also mean that the HKS EVC could be malfunctioning? Any other possiblities?

Im headed to the shop tommorow to throw it on the rack and check everything. Im guessing my boost controller may be the cause since it never has really controlled boost steadily at 8psi since ive had it, and always has overboosted with a weird supercharger-ish 45degree boost curve that never flattens out..

Sorry for the essay, and thank you for all your help guys, you are the BEST

What type of exhaust do you have? Do you have the APS 3.5in down pipes?

the HKS EVC6 is the best boost controller i have ever used. i love those things and they hold rock solid boost. i am thinking you have something hooked up improperly or something needs to be adjusted ...

there is a chance it is the boost controller, but after reading through all the other issues with your install and such, I am going to throw $20 down and say it is install or user related

I would have to assume something is installed incorrectly, double check the installation before switching boost controllers. You can also bypass the boost controller all together and see how the car reacts just at wastegate pressure.

im at the tuner as I type this, somehow the actuators have gone from baseline 7 pounds to 9.5 pounds (over rode my HKS evc). I think im going to order some forged actuators I think these are ****ed up..

It's "Forge actuator" NOT forgeD. Anyway, even if the HKS evc is awesome, if the final end that is controlled by the evc is shitty, your boost will be all over the map.

I had the same experience when I had my APS ST. I initially bought HKS evc in hope of smoothing out the boost and fix the overboosting problem, but it didn't really work.. Then I got the forge actuator and BAM! Boost was rock solid since. HKS evc and the forge actuator is a match made in heaven!

Im going to just go external wastegates instead of messing with this internal stuff. Heres my post, any input would be great.

well technically this is the "tuner" aps tt, but further down the road im going to go external when I have my motor built, + im going to basically have to pull the turbos off to replace the internal wastegates, so I figure now is the perfect time.

Ummm . . . . good luck, I don't know anyone that makes an external wastegate conversion kit. GTM was making one if I remember, but they decided to end the project.

well, i have the tuner kit so it already has external wastegate flanges, it uses the same exhaust manifold as the extreme kit I assume. I have them covered up right now with blocks that were provided with the kit. I just need the external wastegates that come with the extreme kit.
