I purchased my Vortech in the GB, but my engine hydrolocked before I could install it. Its currently at Forged being built and before I have my kit installed, is there anything to look for outta the norm? Does anyone think its possible to send my kit back to Vortech to get QA?

Sorry 'bout your troubles. You might want to take the plenum off and see if there's any damage inside of it just in case if any of the pieces found their way up there.
Good thought, since the supercharger will be in Cali for a couple of weeks, that should give us some time to do the right thing and look into EVERYTHING. We sure don't want a repeat of this performance

Funny, the service guy at Vortech said 'No, we haven't had any problems with the units we sold this summer'. He got real quiet when I related that the guys on my350Z.com thought differently. And started naming names....... I'll add yours to the list, if that's all right.

Good luck and keep us posted.
Yeah, if I have to tear the engine down it's gonna get BUILT. So we will be taking the plenum apart, run some solvent (WD-40) down the intake throats, change the oil, run a magnet through it then pour it through a sieve (fine-mesh screen) and button it all up again. If the oil consumption goes through the roof or it runs rough then I will be looking to doing the rebuild. At that point it is time to go 'whole-hog' and drop the twins in it.

our theory is that maybe they tried to use some different bearings on these for a while and it backfired. once they are sent in and serviced, they all work properly after that.

i think that Vortech should offer a mandatory recall on all the units that have "something" different in them. im calling again today...
Hello, Jeremy. Thanks for all of your help in getting this sorted and, as you can see, we are having our own 'bug-tussle' with Vortech. I did drop your name when talking with them this afternoon and they acted like they had never heard of you. Funny, them taking that attitude. They did say that they had 'gotten two units back from Sam at GTM but nobody else has been having any problems'. Well, we are probably doing the 'liability dance'. They are based in Cali, after all.

Thanks, booger. Good idea and one of the first things we will do (when my husband is off of work and can lend a hand, I don't mind taking things off the car but it is always best to have two people present when starting up an 'untried' motor for the first time). We sincerely hope that the damage is limited to the area between the supercharger and the charge-cooler.

Another member had a catastrophic failure where most of the blades broke off. He found them all in the bottom of the ic and pipes.

I think it goes without saying - ditch the old intercooler and get a new one. IF debris made it through, then it's shot without any question. Either way, it's not with the risk IMO.
Okay, Tengai, your caution is justified and your logic is inescapable. Another thing we gotta buy (but worth the cost). Wonder if Jeremy has got any spares lying he wouldn't mind selling at a good price?

i would take the plenum off and clean everything you can. more than likely everything should be just fine. but make sure you take all the steps to help out.
Received and understood, oh Forced Induction Borg-Mastermind. Resistance is futile!!

I had almost all the blades fall off and I found them on the left side of the I/C. Thats where you should find your blade pieces. I sent mine in about week ago and am still waiting on the verdict however, mine was way worse.....

Taking pictures is definitely not a problem ('wink, wink, nudge, nudge, say no more, say no more'). I will also get close-ups of the interior of the discharge tube on the supercharger (some slight marks showing), the throttle plate, the MAF, the plenum and anywhere else we can think of or that shows any signs of damage. By the way, how the hell do you post the pictures straight into the post without adding them as attachments? There's always some area of knowledge waiting to show a girl up as a 'noob', no matter how many rodeo's she goes to.

Anywho, good documentation is the least we can do for the community that has given us so much info and help.

Still digging the avatar, booger, but how did you get a picture of me in my youth?

Look at the quick reply box at the bottom of the page. There's 3 little buttons to the right of the font color thing. First one is to insert a link, second is for inserting a picture, and third is for inserting a quote. Click on the second button. A box will pop up that asks you for the direct link to the pic. Delete what's already in the box (http://) and paste in the link of your pic. If your pic is not on teh intrawebz, you have to either upload it to places like Photobucket or Imageshack. From those sites, they already have the HTML set up so you can just copy and paste without having to use the buttons on here.
