Default All Recent Vortech Buyers: Please come in. We have issues to discuss

This thread is the offspring from my other thread. It seems there have been a few quality control issues lately with Vortech. Several owners with very few miles on their kits have run into some issues. Please post if you had a issue. It seems to be a reoccurring thing and I would like to see how widespread it is.

1) Purchased from a authorized Vendor. (do not name which)
2) Month of purchase
3) Month of install
4) Mileage on blower unit
5) Issues that you have experienced

1) Yes
2) July
3) August
4) 700
5) -Turbine blades rubbing housing. Causes a screeching noise and has deformed the blades. Blower will be sent back to Vortech this Monday.
- Bearings in jackshaft pulley seem to have gone out. Makes a whirring noise at startup and makes the assembly noticeably louder and a change in the sound.

Ill play...

1) Purchased from a authorized Vendor.
2) December 06
3) January 07
4) 8K
5) 1. Bolt on cog pulley attached to blower started walking out, causing the cog to lossen and get all jacked up. This was a vortech thing, as we never touched the bolt when installing. 2. Small amounts of oil blowing out of BOV. Other than that...

True, but keep in mind that it doesn't necessarily mean that things went bad due to install if a shop didn't do it. Broken parts due to install error is a given. Now when something goes out due to manufacturer defect, that is an issue .

1)Yes. I have already said many times that GTM did my install (it's kinda in my sig too ). They are taking care of everything anyways. No complaints with GTM at all. Sam is tha man and didn't hesitate to say they would cover all parts and labor.
2)Late June 2007
3)Late June 2007
4)Approx. 2000 miles on sc
5)Very loud high pitched, metal on metal whine. Diagnosed by Sam @ GTM to be the blower. Bearings seem to be fine. Supercharger shipped to Vortech.

Vortech has always been very good at replacing or fixing thier blowers under warranty . Seems some new blowers went out bad too . Send them in...they will get fixed .

I see no reason for, here reported, 2-4 weeks turnaround by Vortech. Under warranty, they should be able to send you another one next day.

1) Purchased from an authorized Vendor? Vortech themselves.
2) Month of purchase: JAN 2007
3) Month of install: JAN 2007, by Nissan dealer.
4) Mileage on blower unit: 7,200
5) Issues that you have experienced: Rock-in-can noise, loosened COG belt and changed oil to Mobil1 10W-30 Fully Synthetic and it's so much quieter now.

Make sure ALL pulley centerlines are parallel to eachother. And gear lash or sometimes called "mesh" is okay. You HAVE to have it. If you had ZERO gear mesh you would have tremendous friction and you'd fry the gears themselves. Any ME will tell you that. And some of you mentioned that you think that your impeller blades are rubbing up against the housing causing your "hiss" noise. Don't be silly, if that were the case the noise would be so unbearably loud that's it'd hurt your eardrums and actually scare you to the point of absolutely not cranking your car again until you took off the SC and sent it in to Vortech and got it back.

The "hiss" noise is natural. It's caused from the air being sucked into the intake system so fast that it creates a certain frequency of vibrations when it goes across the impeller blades that is heard by the human ear as a hiss or "whine". Think about the any jet engine you've heard spooling up. Remember that when moving air comes in contact with a still object it creates friction which causes a series of vibrations (or different wave lengths) to be shot off into a particular direction. Think of blowing the edge of a glass soda bottle when we were kids. Remember how "cool" we thought it was to make that "ship horn" sound? So fear not the hiss sound. It's just good ole' physics.

A guy posted some videos earlier in this thread and man, I'll agree something sounds terrible. Mine wasn't half that bad. I'd sent it in immediately to Vortech. Call first to get a RA number.

Let me know.

Good luck everyone.

ding ding ding! holy **** mine sounded bad! I made the mistake of putting my ear near the sc while it was spinning LOUD AND SCREECHY! Its out now and going back to vortech tomorrow.

I guess i couldnt hear the screech as well before due to the jackshaft bearings making their noise. Im uploading to youtube as soon as i get my confirmation email.

I had doubts that it was a bad jackshaft pulley/bearing but once I heard the sound for myself at the shop, the sound is similar to what hex described as a loud high pitched metal to metal whine. This was after having vortech rebuild the blower for me in July-Aug 07 and I just had it installed 2 wks ago with around 30 some pulls on the dyno.
