Default If you buy a boosted car and it blows

I am just curious what people think about this situation. what would you do if you bought a car, just for this story we will say it is a 350z with a turbonetics kit installed. you have 180 miles to drive home from buying the car. at 150 miles or 30 miles from home the car throws 2 rods through the block and just for story sake you were boosting at around 4k-5k rpms. when you take it to get a new motor the performance specialist says it had stock plugs and cracks in the exhaust from were the custom sway bars were hitting the pipes. soo, the performance specialist says "never seen an engine this totaled" and that because of the pre existing condition with the pipes and stock plugs (which are far too hot for the boosted 350z) the engine went. when you tell the seller, they told you, "well he must have been boosting it". and that it was the buyers fault.

this would be a perfect example of why you have a shop that specializes in Zs check out the car before you think about buying it.

Chris if you would've called me before your boy bought it I would've said DON'T DO IT. There's no telling how the previous owner treated the car or maintained it. Seriously, stock plugs? WTF...

Unless the seller made some sort of warranty - which is extremely unlikely - the buyer is on his own. You need to either have a knowledge level appropriate for inspecting and maintaining a non-factory forced induction car, or you need to have someone with that knowledge level check it out before purchasing one. Otherwise you are in for an expensive and frustrating ownership.

I would be searching for a new hypothetical motor to replace the hypothetical motor with the hole in it.

Hypothetically, your fuc*ed. If that did happen to you, then my heart goes out to you. I don't think there is much you can do though especially if you signed it As Is. Stock motors aren't too hard to come by and they aren't that much $$$. This would also be a good time to consider building yours with forged components.

This should serve as a lesson to everyone tbuying a modified car. Please have it thoroughly inspected before hand by a qualified shop. I've bought several modded cars and it's really hit or miss. Sometimes you get a great car and sometimes your just buying someone else's problem. I hope everything works out for you OP.

hypothetically... like everyone else said, you're F'd! In real life or imaginary: Turbonetics should always be double checked before purchase... it has blown on 3-4 of my friends already and they've all gone with diff. FI kits w/ little to no issues. So in this hypothetical situation, my best advice is: Research/Post new thread asking about an FI'd Z before purchase! =D

Since it already went kaboom, time for a built block!

whats the real story? since this is a hypothetical situation with a hypothetical Z. Did this actually happen and you want to protect yourself or someone by stating this is hypothetical?

If this did happen, its time to buy a new motor, or do a complete rebuild on the blown motor. inspect all aspects of the car, and properly re-install the car, re tune, and enjoy
